It’s true, however, that the Swiss ultimately freed themselves from Habsburg’s rule.

Who was a famous Swedish medieval freedom fighter (definitely not fictitious)?
    Engelbrekt. Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson led in 1434-36 a rebellion against the unpopular Danish rule over Sweden of that time. Although Engelbrekt was assassinated, the rebellion resulted in weakened oppression. The Swedes ultimately freed themselves from Danish rule.
