He belonged to the daughter of a local farmer (Mr Clay) who wasn't interested in him. So he sold him to Jill for the sum of £25! When the book was first published the pony was named Blackie. In later editions he was called Patchy.

Jill and the Perfect Pony. Jill gets to ride Plum in a team Gymkhana with the Locketts. The pony belongs to Amanda who convinces Jill to compete her instead because she doest want to. Jill has to pretend to be Amanda for two weeks whilst staying with the Locketts, in the end they find out she is not Amanda but they dont mind and still manage to win the Gymkhana.

Although I think we are supposed to assume that she becomes an author like her mother, as throughout the books we are led to believe that they are written by Jill as she refers to past books e.g. Jill's Gymkhana as being written by herself.
