Special Sub-Topic: The 'Jill' Books

What is the title of the very first book in the series?

Jill's Gymkhana. This was the very first book and in my opinion the best of all! In this book Jill gets her very first Pony, a 14 HH Piebald named Blackboy.

In Jill's Gymkhana, which rosettes does Jill win at Chatton show?
Three firsts, three seconds and a third. She comes first in the bending, musical chairs and in age fourteen and under jumping. Then second in fourteen and under showing, sixteen and under showing and the egg and spoon race and finally third in the sixteen and under bending.

Before Jill owned her first pony Blackboy, what did she call him when she went to visit him each day?
Patchy & Blackie. Down the lane not far Jill's house was the field in which Blackboy was kept. He was completely left to his own devices and Jill used to go and visit him every day. He belonged to the daughter of a local farmer (Mr Clay) who wasn't interested in him. So he sold him to Jill for the sum of £25! When the book was first published the pony was named Blackie. In later editions he was called Patchy.

In which book does Jill get to ride and compete on a pony named Plum?
Jill and the Perfect Pony. Jill gets to ride Plum in a team Gymkhana with the Locketts. The pony belongs to Amanda who convinces Jill to compete her instead because she doest want to. Jill has to pretend to be Amanda for two weeks whilst staying with the Locketts, in the end they find out she is not Amanda but they dont mind and still manage to win the Gymkhana.

What is the last book in the Jill series?
Jill's Pony Trek. There were nine books in the Jill series written by Ruby Ferguson.

What is Jill's second pony called and what colour is he?
Rapide, Bay. Jill's mother buys her a second pony in book three "Jill has two Ponies".Unfortunately Rapide and Jill do not get on in the beginning and Jill almost sells him but changes her mind at the last minute and perserveres. It becomes clear that Rapide has been badly treated but he soon comes around and wins Jill a second in the under sixteens jumping at the Hunter Trials.

What is the name of the riding club that Jill and Anne establish?
The Greenlee Riding Club. They call it the Greenlee Riding club because this is the name of the estate owned by Miss Durdon who allows them to hold their weekly rallies there.

Also in the book "Jill's Riding Club, which of her horses does Mrs Darcy allow Jill to ride in the Grade C jumping at Chatton show?
Messmate. Mrs Darcy wants Jill to ride Messmate in the grade C Jumping as she is quite a green horse and needs the experience of being in the ring. Jill gets the reserve with Messmate.

How much does J. Briggs, the timber merchant, charge Jill for Pedro?
£5.00. Jill buys Pedro as he is being beaten by the timber merchant and worked to death. He is half starved and very neglected when Jill first gets him, but she rehabilitates him into a lovely pony and in the end of the book she sells him to her friend Major Forster as a first pony for his grand-niece Alison.

Throughout the series of books, Jill has many ambitions for her future, which of the following did she want to do?
All of these (Become an MFH, Become an MP and introduce better welfare laws for horses, To run an Orphanage). Unfortunately we never find out exactly what she does with her life. Although I think we are supposed to assume that she becomes an author like her mother, as throughout the books we are led to believe that they are written by Jill as she refers to past books e.g. Jill's Gymkhana as being written by herself.
