Although the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4 it was not read in public until July 8. King George III was crowned in 1761, the First Continental Congress was in 1774, and the Battle of Lexington and Concord was in 1775; the bell was rung for these events also.

Answer: John Pass & John Stow.

For 36 pounds Pass & Stow added significant copper to the old bell in an attempt to make the new bell stronger. Both of their names now appear on the bell, two men accidentally placed in history.
