    Badge of Military Merit. It was created by George Washington for extraodinary valor.

What General helped establish the modern Purple Heart?
    Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Gen. MacArthur was awarded the new medal on February 22, 1922, by President Hoover for his World War I service.

What was the name of the dog awarded the Purple Heart during World War II?
    Chips. He also was awarded the Silver Star for charging a Nazi machine gun in Sicily. The Army later revoked both medals.

What criteria was the most recent qualification for the Purple Heart?
    Injury or death due to Terrorism. President Reagan added this qualification.
