Akkad. Rimush was an Akkadian king. In about 2190 B.C., the Dynasty of Akkad fell to the Gutians. The Gutians were a nomadic people from Mesopotamian plains and the Zagros Mountains, in what is now northern Iran. They are also called the Guti or Quti. They were described as "subhuman barbarians". According to Sumerian and Akkadian texts, they are "with human instinct but canine intelligence and monkeys' features".

How many Gutian kings were there?
    21. Most of the Gutian kings were probably local chiefs with limited authority.

Lagash was a Gutian ____________.
city. When Akkad fell to the Gutians, some cities, such as Lagash and Uruk, became independent, though their rulers rejected the title of governer (ensi).

Gudea was a Gutian ________.
king. Before his death, Gudea of Lagash left tablets which contain the most important texts in classical Sumerian. This tells us that the Gutians probably knew Sumerian.

Utu-Hegal. In about 2114 B.C., Utu-Hegal of Uruk drove the Gutians out of Sumer, and he died soon after, probably in the same year. Mesopotamian kings also tried to overtake the Gutians, and the Assyrian Kingdom also expanded. Thus the Gutians lost their identity. Did you enjoy this quiz? Please comment on this quiz and rate.
