Special Sub-Topic: "Weaver's Daughter" by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley

In what US state did the Bakers live before they moved to Southwest Territory?

Pennsylvania & pa. The Bakers moved from their old farm in Pennsylvania four years before the story begins. Lizzy was so sick that she barely remembers the journey.

What does Lizzy wish she were doing instead of slicing apples?
Picking apples. Lizzy wants to be outside in the sun rather than be sitting at the table cutting up apples. Ma wants her to stay inside, though, because she always gets sick around that time of year.

What is the name of Lizzy's friend?
Suzy Pearlette. Actually, Suzy Pearlette is the only one of the choices who exists in "Weaver's Daughter." There is a Charlie Smithson, but not a Charlotte Smithson. There is no Edwina Hough, but Edward Hough. And in the book, Mrs. Cole never mentions having any children.

What does Pa buy for Hezzy while they are in town?
A wooden fife. When Hezzy and Nan are talking about seeing Mr. William and Miss Sarah in Jonesborough, Pa gets up from the wagon and goes into a shop. Lizzy thought the package he handed Hezzy contained a silk ribbon, but it was actually a fife.

To what religious denomination do the Bakers belong?
Methodist. Hezzy wonders if the Beaumonts go to the Methodist church, like the Bakers do. It turns out that they do, but the first time they go, Miss Sarah and Mr. William leave before they can be talked to.

What sickness does Lizzy have?
Asthma. Lizzy gets sick every fall. It keeps getting worse and worse until Lizzy and everyone else thinks that she is going to die.

When Lizzy is sick, Charlie carves her a wooden toy of what animal?
Horse. Hezzy scornfully brings it to Lizzy while she is still recovering from her bout of asthma.

The Beaumont's plantation is near what town?
Charlestown. Charlestown is by the sea, which is why Lizzy goes to live with the Beaumonts, since the sea air is supposed to help her sickness.

What color does Mr. William wear to the church dinner?
Gold. When Lizzy and Nan are watching him go over to Hezzy, Nan calls him "Hezzy’s golden boy."

When Miss Sarah asks Lizzy if she wants a piece of silk like Hezzy has, Lizzy says no, but that she does want something else. What is it?
Fleece. Lizzy wants the fleece so she can weave a coverlet in the pattern that Hezzy designed.

Who is the first person to wash Patsy after she's born?
Lizzy. Hezzy catches the baby, but Lizzy washes her in warm water and towels her off.

Who is Patsy named after?
Her grandmother, Martha. There is no Aunt Polly, Patsy has no godmother, and their mother’s name is Hannah, not Polly. Patsy was named after Grandmother Martha, but how you get "Patsy" out of Martha, I don’t know.

What color does Nan not like to dye with?
Blue. After hearing about the Beaumont's slaves, Nan doesn't wear or use indigo dye because she thinks that slaves are wrong.

Who teaches Lizzy and Hezzy to read?
Mr. William. Ever since the Bakers received the letter from Ma’s father, Hezzy wants to read. At first she asks Daniel, but he says no. As a favor for her sister, Lizzy asks Mr. William to teach them both to read.

The epilogue of "Weaver's Daughter" is a letter from which character to whom?
Lizzy to Hezzy. The letter tells you a bit about how Lizzy does after leaving her family.
