Kingston, Ontario is situated right where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River. For the record, there is a Mississippi river in Ontario, but it's farther north in Pakenham. Really great ice cream in Pakenham. Really. ;)

Born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1952, Aykroyd now claims Kingston as his place of residence. He owns a cottage on nearby Loboro Lake, where he was often seen waterskiing with his good friend, the late John Candy. Back in 1996 or 1997 there was a rumour flying around Kingston that actor Mel Gibson was looking at realty across the lake from Aykroyd's cottage, but unfortunately he never did.

When Upper and Lower Canada united, Kingston became the first capital. The seat of government moved to Ottawa in the 1840s and the original parliament buildings became the site of the now-defunct H�tel Dieu hospital.

Built for the sailing events for the 1976 Olympic games that were played in Montreal. Funny enough, Toronto has decided to build a new harbour closer to the Ontario capital if they get the 2008 Olympic bid (they didn't), even though the Kingston site would be much better. Their reason: they want to keep Olympic tourism closer to Toronto. Humph.

Kingston is sometimes jokingly called the "Penitentiary Capital of Canada."
