Special Sub-Topic: Which Way to Cardiff?


Easy one to start. If you are in Cardiff - which direction is Swansea?

    west. Cardiff is the capital of Wales. Travelling to Swansea is easy, as there is a motorway link between the cities, or a regular express train service.

Which direction would you head, to travel from Brecon, to Abergavenny?
    south east. By road, the most direct route would be via the A40.

You are visiting Camarthen, and fancy a day out in Aberystwyth, which direction would you have to travel?
    north. Both Camarthen and Aberystwyth are beautiful ancient towns. Aberystwyth is an university town, and Camarthen is perhaps best known for its ancient castle.

After spending a day out in Aberystwyth, why not take a trip to Rhyader tomorrow - but which direction is it?
    south east. You would not get very far trying to drive your car west of Aberystwth, you would end up in the Irish sea! When you get to Rhyader, take a drive along the picturesque Elan valley.

Which direction is Bangor from Llandudno?
    south west. Both Bangor and Llandudno, are seaside towns on the northern coast of Wales.

Is Builth Wells north of Brecon?
    y. Builth Wells is famous for the annual "Welsh show", where Welsh farmers show their livestock, and visitors get to see all aspects of Welsh farming, - a wonderful day out for the whole family.

In the South Wales valleys, which direction is Pontypridd from Abercynon?
    south. Known locally as "Ponty", the town of Pontypridd lies on the river Taff, which is from where the Welsh get the nickname "Taffy". Pontypridd is perhaps best known as being the birthplace of the singer, Tom Jones.

You have just arrived at Cardiff Wales International Airport, and you want to go into Cardiff - but which direction is Cardiff from the airport?
    east. The main airport which serves Wales, is at Rhoose, and is roughly 14 miles from the center of Cardiff.

You are in the beautiful city of St Davids, and you want to go to Fishguard, which direction is Fishguard from St Davids?
    north east. The city of St Davids is the smallest city in Wales, and is one of the smallest cities in the whole of the UK. It's located in the old county of Pembrokeshire, and is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty - a must-see for any visitors to Wales!

Where is Wales with relation to the rest of Great Britain?
    to the west of GB. From the lakes and mountains, down through the rivers and streams, to the rugged and majestic coastlines, Wales is a beautiful country.
