    20. He finished on 20 votes just one clear of teammate Daniel Kerr.

What was unusual about Cousins relationship with the man who came second in the award?
    The runner-up was dating Cousins' sister. Ben Cousins' sister was actually dating Daniel Kerr and attended the function as Kerr's date. She described it as a win-win situation when the final votes were being read out.

Which player was the subject of a nationwide betting plunge following a leak predicting him as the winner of the award?
    Brett Kirk. Kirk would have disappointed punters as he only polled 10 votes to finish 10 behind Cousins.

Which player polled the most votes for the Brisbane Lions?
    Luke Power. Power polled 14 votes to easily poll more than Akermanis and Brown 11 and Black six. This was despite missing three games during the year.

Which of the 2005 Rising Star nominations polled the most Brownlow votes?
    Brock McLean. Despite finishing way back in voting for the Rising Star, McLean polled nine votes, seven more than Rising Star winner Deliedio.

    202. A total of 32 players polled one vote, whilst 30 players reached double figures.

Which ineligible player polled the most votes?
    Chris Judd. Judd, the winner in 2004 polled 15 votes. Ricciuto polled 11 and Gehrig 10. Barry Hall polled 16 votes, however he was eligible to win the award as he was not suspended during the regular season.

Who polled the most votes in terms of teams?
    Adelaide. Despite having the winner and runner-up, West Coast could only manage the second most votes. Adelaide finished on top of the ladder and therefore were expected to poll well.

Which team had the least amount of vote getters?
    Carlton. Carlton only had nine players that polled votes in the count. As they finished with the wooden spoon, this was expected.
