Zachary Taylor, the President-elect, had postponed the inauguration for religious reasons(it fell on Sunday), so Atchison,the Missourian president-pro-tempore of the Senate, became an unofficial president of the United States for only 24 hours. By the way, the city of Atchison, KS was named after this not-so-forgotten 'president'

    James Garfield. Garfield did not die from assassination. What killed him was blood infection given to him by doctors that used non-sterile equipment and methods.

    Washington. He surely foxed the Hessians by crossing the Delaware!
