Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Microsoft, what does the 'XP' in Windows XP stand for?

Answer: eXPerience

Microsoft is building on their experience with the Windows 9x family and the Windows NT/2000 operating systems. Windows XP combines the ease of use of Win9x with the stability, security and strength of NT/2000. According to everyone else, any of the other definitions can apply.
2. Once you have installed Windows XP, how long do you have to activate your copy?

Answer: 30 days

Until you have activated Windows XP, an 'Activate' icon will appear in the system tray to remind you. If you haven't activated your copy within 30 days, your operating system will stop working.
3. What types of file systems are available with Windows XP?

Answer: Both of them

NTFS (New Technology File System) provides better security and allows for auditing, but if you are running a dual boot configuration on one machine, you must install Windows XP with FAT (File Allocation Table) selected.
4. Which operating system supports, by default, EFS?

Answer: Professional

While the Home Edition has many of the same features, the Professional edition has extensive security features and allows for more remote activities as well as administrative options such as the Encrypting File System.
5. Which one of these wizards makes its first appearance with Windows XP?

Answer: Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard makes it easy to transfer your data and other files from one computer to another, or from one installation of Windows to another on the same computer.
6. Can Windows 98 be upgraded to Windows XP?

Answer: Yes

Windows 98, 98 Second Edition and ME can be upgraded to Windows XP. While an upgrade is easier, it can leave files on your hard disk from the previous OS which can impair performance. A clean install does entail more work, such as backing up all of your data and reinstalling all of your applications, but performance would be better in the long run.
7. You're stuck with that new Start Menu in Windows XP, whether you like it or not.

Answer: False

If you prefer the Classic Start Menu, changing it is easy. Right-click in an empty space on the taskbar and click Properties. This opens the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window. Click on the Start Menu tab, select the radio button for Classic Start Menu, click Apply and then OK.
8. Which one of these is NOT an option of the Automatic Updates feature?

Answer: Automatically search for online friends and family at start up

Although 'Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install them' is the recommended selection, some may want to choose 'Download updates for me but let me choose when to install them', which is the fourth option available, when you may want to do a little more research on the consequences of an update (such as the Service Pack 2 problems). You can access this feature by right clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties, and then choosing the Automatic Updates tab, or you can take the easy path by using the Windows Key + Break and then clicking on the Automatic Updates tab.
9. You know you downloaded a picture of SpongeBob from the Internet but you can't find it where you thought you saved it. The best thing to do is open Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E) and search through every file on your hard drive (including hidden files).

Answer: False

While you could certainly do this, it's definitely not the best way. Just use Windows Key + F to open a Search Window. You'll be greeted by Rover (or whoever you've selected as your animated assistant) who'll be happy to fetch what you're looking for. To find that picture, click on Pictures, Music or Video under What do you want to search for, and then click Pictures and Photos, or if you know the name you gave the picture, or the file extension, you can enter that. Click search and your assistant will take care of the rest.

Not only does Rover do neat little tricks when you ask him a question, he's really cute when he goes to sleep, which he'll do if you leave him idle for a while. The Search feature can also be accessed by selecting Search from the Start menu.
10. Which game does Windows XP have that Windows 98 did not?

Answer: Pinball

Pinball was included with Windows ME, but not 98. The Pinball game is fun, but Spider Solitaire is still my favorite. But who has time to play games? :)
