Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start at a gentle pace. On the album "Blonde on Blonde", visions of whom "are now all that remain"?

Answer: Johanna

From the song "Visions of Johanna". This is one of those Dylan songs that seems to exist in several different forms, with different verses - but the title never changes.
2. In "Tombstone Blues", who is having a bald wig knitted for him?

Answer: Jack the Ripper

Apart from any other references to them, all the others appear in "Desolation Row" on the same album ("Highway 61 Revisited").
3. In "Desolation Row", with whom is Ezra Pound "fighting in the captain's tower"?

Answer: T.S. Eliot

The others are in the same, lengthy song, too.
4. According to the eponymous song, what is the name of the woman for whom Dylan wrote "Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands"?

Answer: Sara

I was touched, the first time I heard this verse - it seemed such a poignant link between two magnificent tracks.
5. One of Bob's lesser-known tracks, now:- in "When I paint my Masterpiece", he says he has a date with a famous artist's niece. The artist's name is ....?

Answer: Botticelli

Any of these is possible, knowing Mr Zimmerman - but only one is right.
6. Going back to "The Times They are a-Changin'" for an easy one: "like _______'s tribe they'll be drownded in the tide" ("When the Ship Comes In")

Answer: Pharaoh

Again, anything is possible - all get a mention by Mr Z somewhere or other (Goliath appears in the next line of the same song).
7. With whom are Lily and Rosemary heavily involved on "Blood on the Tracks"?

Answer: Jack of Hearts

The Queen of Spades is from "I Want You", Jack of Diamonds is referred to in one of Bob's rambling sleeve notes ("Freewheelin'" or "Highway 61 Revisited", I think) - the Queen of Hearts is in a nursery rhyme!
8. "John Wesley Harding" - with whom was Frankie Lee the best of friends?

Answer: Judas Priest

In "The Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest". Is this where the band got their name from? I don't know, but I expect someone out there does.
9. Whose beard did Bob pretend to like to escape from his "Motorpsycho Nightmare"?

Answer: Fidel Castro

"I had to say something that would strike him really weird / So I yelled out I like Fidel Castro and his beard" - as this the rest of the song wasn't weird enough!
10. Finally - in "Maggie's Farm", which of her relatives is NOT mentioned?

Answer: Son

Who was Maggie, anyway? Between this farm and the household in "On the Road Again" ("you ask why I don't live here - honey, how come you don't move?") he seems to have had a difficult social life!
