Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band was known for sending a camera crew around the audience to interview and find possible groupies?

Answer: Poison

Poison was one of the first metal bands that was known for having more female fans than males. During their 1988 tour, the band would send a camera crew around the audience to interview pretty girls. Then Poison would view the tapes and choose which girls they wanted to invite backstage.

The video camera technique was a result of a competition between Bret Michaels and Rikki Rockett for the most female attention.
2. Which band replaced their lead singer with a fan from a tribute band?

Answer: Judas Priest

To be the lead singer of your favorite band is any metal fan's dream come true. This dream did come true for one Judas Priest fan in 1996. Rob Halford left the band, and he was replaced by Tim "Ripper" Owens, the lead singer of a Judas Priest tribute band. This incident was said to be the inspiration for the movie "Rock Star". Owens was re-replaced by Halford in 2003.
3. How was KISS guitarist Ace Frehley electrocuted during a concert?

Answer: He grabbed a metal rail.

KISS was playing a concert in Florida in the '70s, back when guitars were actually connected to amplifiers. During the concert, Ace Frehley lost his balance from his heavy costume and grabbed a metal rail. Ace instantly collapsed and couldn't let go of the rail.

The fans thought it was part of the show. Ace was carried backstage, where paramedics revived him, and he insisted on playing rest of the show. Ace's electrocution inspired KISS's hit, "Shock Me". Totally shocking, wasn't it?
4. What was the main purpose of Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash's bodyguard?

Answer: Carry him if he passed out drunk

Slash was always known as a binge drinker, and oftentimes, he would pass out and wake up in strange places. He even hired a bodyguard just for the purpose of picking him up and carrying him if he passed out drunk. Metal DJ and VH1 Classic present Eddie Trunk said on "100 Most Metal Moments" that Slash clearly had two different personalities.

When Slash was sober, he was very friendly and easy going. But when he was drunk, Eddie said he was, "The most insane, off-the-wall, stammering, cursing, falling guy you've ever met."
5. What band was known as the first Christian hair metal band?

Answer: Stryper

Stryper dressed and rocked as hard as any of the other metal bands, but they were different in the way that their music was Christian based. They didn't sing about drugs, murder, sex out of marriage, Satan, or crime. Many critics considered Stryper to be a metal oxymoron, but they were very successful. Stryper was even known for throwing Bibles into the audience.

Despite what some people may think, many rock stars are Christian, but they just don't devote their careers to their faith.
6. What was shown in Faith No More's video "Epic" that offended the animal rights group PETA?

Answer: A fish flopping out of water

Faith No More's 1990 song "Epic" was a huge hit, and many fans say it actually changed the course of metal in the '90s. However, the video was not popular with animal rights group PETA because it showed a fish flopping around on dry ground. The band thought the accusations were senseless, and they thought a fish is just a fish.

The fish belonged to Icelandic pop star Bjork, and someone related to the band had managed to get hold of it. I mentioned the cat being shut in the moonroof, because in 2005, there was an unaired car commercial that featured just that. Of course, the commericial was computer animated, and nothing was really hurt.

The commercial never appeared on TV, but it did leak to the Internet, and it can be found on various websites.
7. Alice in Chains filmed a famous episode of "Headbanger's Ball" at what type of location?

Answer: Water park

In 1992, popular grunge band Alice in Chains did a special end-of-summer "Headbanger's Ball" episode at the Action Park in New Jersey, one of the biggest water parks in the U.S. The member of band who received the most attention was guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who who wearing a very short Speedo at the park.

Their antics just proved that Alice in Chains were not as dark and serious as their music.
8. What band has an album with an infamous picture of their logo etched into a fan's arm?

Answer: Slayer

In 1994, an unnamed Slayer fan had the band's name deeply cut into his arm. While the members of Slayer insisted they never told him to cut their name into his arm, they did use a picture of the wounds in their "Divine Intervention" album.
9. What song did Megadeth perform at a concert in Northern Ireland that started a riot?

Answer: Anarchy in Ireland

During a concert in Northern Ireland, lead singer Dave Mustaine became heated when he saw a group of people selling bootleg Medadeth shirts, with the proceeds going to the Irish Republican Army. During the show, a very drunk Dave went on a rant about religious war and dedicated the song "Anarchy in Ireland" (originally "Anarchy in the UK", but changed wherever it is performed) to the IRA terrorist organization.

The audience shouted death threats, which escalated into a riot. Megadeth left Northern Ireland in a bus with bullet-proof windows.
10. What '80s hair metal band received attention in 1998 when they performed at a nudist camp?

Answer: Quiet Riot

Quiet Riot was a mega success in the '80s with hit songs such as "Metal Health" and "Cum on Feel the Noize". Quiet Riot had been out of the spotlight for a long time, but they reformed in the late '90s. In 1998, they performed at a very unsual venue in Michigan, a nudist camp! Based on the file tape on "100 Most Metal Moments", it looked like the audience did have a lot of fun!
