With a little help from 50 Cent, I attained my first clue. Taken from one of his most successful songs, the lyrics, "Go, go, go Shorty, it's yo birthday" allowed me to deduce that Shorty was born on December 24th - the release date of this 50 Cent single. What is the title of the track from which these lyrics are taken?
In Da Club
Whilst listening to the 2010 track "Replay", the lyrics of which state that "Shorty's like a melody in my head", it became clear to me that Shorty is/was a singer himself. What is the name of the artist who released "Replay" as his debut single?
Whilst listening to some music from the 1990s, I picked out a lyric from "No Diggity", which declared, "Just for Shorty, bang-bang". At first I did not know how to use this clue, but later realised that the words "bang-bang" were closely associated with the real identity of Shorty.
What was the name of the group which released "No Diggity" in 1996?
Boys II Men
My next clue came from "Robocop", a lesser known song by a well known artist. Here it was stated that "Shorty kinda crazy". I first took this to be an insult, but soon found that it was a reference to a song released by the man under the stage name Shorty, the title of which translates as "livin' the crazy life".
What is the name of the artist who released the track, "Robocop"?
In his 2009 track, American rapper Plies claimed "Shawty you my medicine", and from this I came to the conclusion that, despite being a singer, Shorty also had a general link to a hospital, or at least acted as though he did.
Which female singer appeared on Plies' track, "Medicine"?
Whoever Shorty is, he must certainly be flattered by his appearance in so many songs, especially the 2007 track "Shorty Is a 10", which I took to be alluding to his attractive physical appearance. What is the name of the singer-songwriter who released "Shorty Is a 10"?
Attempting to take a break from my search for the real identity of Shorty, I decided to wind down and listen to some Akon. However, the song which began to play just happened to be called "Shorty" and I was once again listening out for clues. Here, I found out that Shorty is known as a flamboyant dancer.
Which of these songs does *not* belong to Akon?
Despite having some success in the music industry, Shorty appears to have been largely absent from the music scene in the second half of the noughties. I first deduced this after listing to how "Shorty got low, low, low" in a song released in the middle of this quiet period. Which artist released "Low", the track from which these lyrics are taken?
The fact that "Shorty" is an affectionate term used by both male and female singers led me to believe that there had been speculation over Shorty's sexual orientation. Along with this, it had been disclosed by Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston in their 2010 release that "Shorty Is an Eenie Meenie Miney Moe lover", thus confirming these suspicions.
Which of these tracks was *not* released by Justin Bieber?
One Less Lonely Girl
Now that I have shared my findings with you, there is only one detail I have failed to mention. What is the real identity of Shorty?
