Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is NOT an actual ship status on "TOS", "TNG" or "Voyager"?

Answer: condition black

Condition green is the usual status of a starship, when there are no threats to the ship. Condition gray is when the ship needs to conserve power by limiting use of low priority systems. Condition blue is when a ship is landing or separating the saucer section.
2. On a "Star Trek" Federation ship, where are the heisenberg compensators?

Answer: in the transporters

The heisenberg compensators could be serviced by raising the transporter pad, as seen in "Realm of Fear" from "Star Trek: TNG".
3. In which "Star Trek: TOS" episode did Captain Kirk tell Mr. Scott to separate the ship if he could to save the ship?

Answer: The Apple

The Enterprise was being pulled down by a force from the planet. Kirk told Mr. Scott to eject the nacelles and escape with the main section. He doesn't have the power to do it, so we never see it happen.
4. In "Star Trek" what does a chromodynamic power module supply power to?

Answer: androids

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Prototype" Lt. Torres is forced to build a new module by Automated Personnel Unit 3947. The new module would allow them to reproduce.
5. In "Star Trek", what does a tantalus field do?

Answer: makes people disappear

In the "Star Trek: TOS" episode titled "Mirror, Mirror", Kirk and the landing party are transported to a parallel universe. A universe where assassination is an accepted method to advance in rank. In Kirk's quarters he is shown the tantalus field by Marlena.
6. In "Star Trek" where would you find a type R phase discriminating amplifier?

Answer: in Data's brain

In the episode "Time's Arrow Part 1" from "Star Trek: TNG" Data's head is found in a cave on Earth with other artifacts that date to 1889. When Captain Picard suggests that maybe it's Lore's head, Data rules that out by explaining that Lore had a type L phase discriminating amplifier and Data had a type R.
7. In "Star Trek" what was tellerium used for?

Answer: stabilizes matter-antimatter reaction in engines

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Resistance" Captain Janeway leads an away mission to obtain a small amount of tellerium, of which their supply is almost gone.
8. In "Star Trek" what was the most likely outcome if the inertial dampers were damaged or disabled?

Answer: ship could not go to warp speed

The inertial dampers absorbed the inertia of sudden acceleration or deceleration of a ship going to or coming out of warp speed. Without them the crew would be slammed into the walls of the ship.
9. On "Star Trek" Federation ships, where would you find magnetic constrictors?

Answer: warp engines

Magnetic constrictors fire antimatter particles into the matter-antimatter reaction assembly in the warp engines.
10. In "Star Trek" what is a micro-resonator used for?

Answer: demagnetizing objects

The micro-resonator was used by Crewman Chell on the transporter in the episode "Learning Curve" from "Star Trek: Voyager". In this application it was the equivalent to using a toothbrush to clean a floor because the job could be done by a magneton scanner in a fraction of the time.
