Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Elvis Stojko rose to fame competing in which men's Olympic sport?

Answer: Figure Skating

Elvis Stojko was born in Ontario Canada and won silver medals in the 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics. He has often included Elvis Presley's music in his skating routines.
2. Which famous Elvis was born as Declan MacManus?

Answer: Elvis Costello

MacManus adopted the stage name D. P. Costello in honor of his father, who had performed using the stage name Day Costello. In the mid-seventies, his manager suggested he change his stage name further, and he adopted The King's first name, thus launching the career of Elvis Costello.
3. Elvis Grbac is known for his prowess on the gridiron, with a career that culminated as quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed a mixed relationship, however, with the fans of the teams he played for. When he was injured midway into the 2001 season, what did the Baltimore fans chant?

Answer: "Elvis has left the building"

When Grbac joined Baltimore, he alienated a number of fans when his brash talk wasn't backed up by strong performance. After his mid-season injury, which kept him out of two games, Grbac returned to lead the Ravens to an 8-6 record in the 2001 season, and they were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. Grbac's career ended abruptly following that season.
4. Since The King became famous, many people have named their children Elvis, but how popular was the name Elvis before the arrival of Elvis Presley? In the year Elvis Presley was born (1935), approximately how many other men were born in the US who were also named Elvis?

Answer: At least 12

According to the Social Security Death Index, twelve men who have died were issued social security numbers in 1935. Since other men born in 1935 named Elvis may still be living, this represents the minimum number born that year.

Looking back through the 20th century, 55 men have died who were named Elvis and were born between 1900 and 1955, the year Elvis rose to fame.
5. Another of The King's namesakes, Elvis Crespo, has become a musical star. What type of music has made Elvis Crespo famous?

Answer: Merengue

Elvis Crespo was named for Elvis Presley, and was born in New York City in 1971. He was raised in Puerto Rico, where he began his singing career. In 1999, he won a Grammy for Best Merengue Performance.
6. Perhaps he's an Elvis wannabe, because this airline exec was often seen dressing up as The King. Which former CEO loved to impersonate Elvis?

Answer: Herb Kelleher (Southwest Airlines)

Herb was known for his focus on customer service, and doing anything to get closer to his customers and employees, including dressing up as The King for company events.

While Branson, Hughes, and Borman each have their own rich histories, there is no record of any of them being seen publicly impersonating Elvis.
7. In a comedic tribute to The King, 'Saturday Night Live' staged a skit featuring Elvi - a pair of Elvis impersonators with somewhat exaggerated stage presence. Which SNL actors were Elvi?

Answer: John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd

Both used their musical talents that helped launch The Blues Brothers in a somewhat cynical sketch as younger and older versions of Elvis (Aykroyd played the younger Elvis, and the heavier Belushi played the older Elvis).
8. In the movie 'Honeymoon in Vegas', Nicolas Cage's character unwittingly joins a group of skydivers known as the Flying Elvises. What is the name of the real-life team of skydiving Elvis impersonators?

Answer: The Flying Elvi

Members of the Flying Elvi were the actual stunt team used during the filming of Honeymoon In Vegas. They perform across the US for all types of occasions.
9. Which other musical Elvis has a father who is perhaps best known for acting in one of Alfred Hitchcock's most iconic movies?

Answer: Elvis Perkins

Elvis Perkins is the son of Anthony Perkins, who starred in the movie 'Psycho'. Elvis is a folk-rock recording artist, who plays with his band Elvis in Dearland.
10. And now as an ultimate cross-over question: which tribute band (non-Elvis) has an Elvis impersonator as their lead singer?

Answer: Dread Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin)

Dread Zeppelin has a rather unique approach to their tribute to Led Zeppelin - including a style influenced by Reggae, and lead singer (Greg Tortell) who is a 300 pound Elvis impersonator.

The other choices are also actual tribute bands, each with their own signature styles. Beatallica's songs include 'All You Need Is Blood' and 'A Garage Dayz Night'. Hayseed Dixie brings a hillbilly style, and instruments like the mouth harp, to their renditions of AC/DC's best songs. As their name implies, Gabba is a punk mashup performing ABBA's songs while emulating the Ramones' style. Wow.
