Believe it or not, many people in the world that think we do. However, Canada is divided into ten provinces and three territories.
2. What province was last to join the Confederation of Canada?

Answer: Newfoundland

In 1867, the Province of Canada became the Confederation of Canada with four provinces called Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario. Manitoba became a province in 1870, British Columbia in 1871, Prince Edward Island in 1873, Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1905, and Newfoundland in 1949.
The Yukon Territory was formed in 1870, The Northwest Territories in 1870 and Nunavut in 1999.
3. What is the highest position that can be held by an elected official in Canada?

Answer: Prime Minister

The 22nd Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, became Prime Minister in 2006. The monarch of England is the head of state. His/her duties are taken on by the Governor-General who represents the monarch in a country.

Vancouver Island is part of the Province of British Columbia and where the capital city Victoria is.

This is a trick question. The 48 contiguous states of America, are Canada's friend and neighbour to the south.
Both countries are proud to say it is the longest undefended border in the world.

Answer: Newfoundland

Until 1949 when Newfoundland became a province, Cape Breton, part of Nova Scotia, was the most eastern part of Canada.
7. Do most Canadians live in igloos?

Answer: No

Igloo living is a misconception by a surprisingly amount of people.
Traditional homes of the Inuit, they are now built as temporary shelter from storms and during hunting expeditions.

Answer: North

9. Does Canada have two official languages?

Answer: Yes

English and French are the offical languages.
10. Who was the first prime minister of Canada?

Answer: Sir John A. Macdonald

Macdonald, elected 1867, held office until 1873, re-elected 1878, died in office 1891. Diefenbaker, elected 1957, held office until 1963. Trudeau, elected 1968, held office until 1979, re-elected 1980, held office until 1984. Mulroney, elected 1984, held office until 1993.
