Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Translation:

Grau-Grey
Schwarz-Black
Gruen-Green
Blau-Blue
lila-violet
Rosa-Pink
Gelb-Yellow
Rot-Red

As with the months, the colors nearly sound alike in German as in English, because German and English are Indo-European languages, with some exceptions in sound and writing. Gelb has it roots in glänzend (shiny). Yellow has the some root (gelwaz) but developed quite differently. And lila is just like lilac, a beautiful shrub in German, also called Flieder. Maybe with some violets beneath it? Surely looks nice.

Erich Kaestner, (born February 23.1899 in Dresden; died July 29, 1974 in Munich) is one of Germany's greatest poets. He wrote for grownups, but is best known for his books for children. You might know his book "Lisa and Lottie" aka "The Parent Trap". He wrote a string of wonderful poems, covering each month of the year. It was released in 1955, and it is easy to read for all ages. Here is a tiny bit of March, one of my favorite months:

"Snowdrops now feel,
what they mean.
If you close your eyes,
do you hear them ringing?"
