Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sir Winston Churchill was known for wearing what type of hat? Its name makes it sound like he wore food on his head.

Answer: Homburg

Sir Winston Churchill was a two-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He served his first term from 1940-1945 and helped lead the British through World War II. Winston Churchill served his second term from 1951-1955 and was present when King George VI passed away in 1952, which marked the beginning of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Winston Churchill was often photographed wearing a style of hat known as the Homburg. Homburg hats are usually black or grey and feature a flat brim with a center crease. The style of hat was created in the Hesse region of Germany and was named after the town of Bad Homburg. It became popular in the United Kingdom around the 1890s after it was introduced to the nation by the man who would later be crowned King Edward VII.
2. What is the subtitle of a game from "The Legend of Zelda" series that was released for the Game Boy Advance?

Answer: The Minish Cap

"The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap" was released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan and Europe in November 2004. It would be released in North America about two months later. In "The Minish Cap", a sage named Ezlo was transformed into a green cap (similar to Link's normal cap) with a bird-like beak by the game's main antagonist Vaati.

Ezlo was a member of the Picori (aka Minish) race, tiny elf-like beings about the size of a human thumb. The Picori civilization could only connect to the Kingdom of Hyrule once per century. In addition, they were only visible to children. Ezlo ended up getting rescued by a young Link and became a guide for him (similar to what Navi the fairy was to Link in "Ocarina of Time" for the Nintendo 64).
3. Can you identify the name of a college located in Florida that was named after a famous hat maker?

Answer: Stetson University

Stetson University is located in the city of DeLand which is the seat of Volusia County, Florida. DeLand is about a thirty minute drive from the city of Daytona Beach. The school was first established in 1883 as DeLand Academy and the name was changed to Stetson University in 1889. Stetson University was originally affiliated with the Southern Baptist church, but it became a secular school in 1995.

Stetson University was named in honor of John B. Stetson, the man credited with developing the definitive cowboy hat. Despite catering mostly to Westerners, the New Jersey born John B. Stetson operated his hat business out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He would eventually move to DeLand, Florida where he built a huge mansion in 1886. The mansion currently operates as a museum.
4. Which professional wrestler seemingly retired at Wrestlemania 33 in 2017 when he placed his hat in the middle of the ring?

Answer: The Undertaker

Mark Calaway debuted as The Undertaker for the World Wrestling Federation (currently World Wrestling Entertainment) in November 1990. His gimmick was that of a mortician who "dug holes and took souls". Mark Calaway enjoyed a very successful career portraying The Undertaker, winning multiple championships and becoming one of the most respected performers in professional wrestling.

At "WrestleMania 33" (April 2, 2017), The Undertaker was defeated by Roman Reigns during the main event of the show. After the match, The Undertaker placed his signature black trenchcoat, gloves and hat in the center of the ring, giving the fans the indication that he was retiring. However, The Undertaker would perform in several more matches afterwards before finally hanging up his boots for good in 2020.
5. A yarmulke is a special type of cap worn by men who follow which major religion?

Answer: Judaism

A yarmulke, aka kippah or koppel, is a small brimless head covering (skullcap) that is worn by males who follow Judaism. The rules on when and where to put on a yarmulke varies depending on a person's specific denomination. For example, those who practice Orthodox Judaism are required to wear a yarmulke in public at all times. For some less strict denominations, a yarmulke may only be required to be worn during religious ceremonies and holidays.

The material and designs of a yarmulke can also vary based on rules dictated by specific denominations. A person who practices Hasidic Judaism might normally wear a simple black velvet yarmulke, while a person who practices a less restrictive form of Judaism may wear a more liberal design.
6. Which famous comedian had the starring role in the 2003 movie adaptation of Dr. Seuss' "The Cat in the Hat"?

Answer: Mike Myers

"The Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) was first published on March 12, 1957. The story involved the titular cat visiting the home of two children stuck at home on a rainy day. He attempted to entertain them with various magic tricks, but he and his diminutive "Thing" friends ended up trashing the house. However, he did manage to clean everything up before the kids' mother got home.

"The Cat in The Hat" became the second Dr. Seuss book to be adapted into a live action film. In 2000, a live action version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (starring Jim Carrey as The Grinch) was released and has become a cult favorite. In 2003, "The Cat in The Hat" was released with Mike Myers playing the titular character. However, "The Cat in The Hat" received mostly unfavorable reviews and is often considered to be a flop.

Answer: Gordie Howe

Gordie Howe spent most of his career with the Detroit Red Wings from 1946-1971. After spending several years in the WHA (World Hockey Association), Gordie Howe returned to the NHL in 1979 and closed out his career with the Hartford Whalers at age 52.

The term Gordie Howe hat trick was created by an unnamed sports reporter in the 1950s. In addition to his offensive prowess, Gordie Howe was also known for his intense physicality. He spent an average of 70 minutes in the penalty box per season in the NHL. Despite the accomplishment being named after him, Gordie Howe himself only managed to get credited with two of his namesake hat tricks.

Answer: Ted

9. Which of these heavy metal singers became famous for dressing like an evil bishop (hat and all) during performances?

Answer: Tobias Forge (Ghost)

In addition to the costume, Tobias Forge usually had his face painted like a skull and carried around a staff which also featured the band's logo.

In 2017, the Papa Emeritus persona was briefly retired and Tobias Forge debuted a different character named Cardinal Copia, whose costume consisted of black clothing and a full headed humanoid mask instead of face paint.
