Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Nathaniel meets Bartimaeus first, what form does Bartimaeus take?

Answer: A sulphur cloud

He wanted to scare Nathaniel as he recognized that it was Nathaniel's first summoning.
2. How many planes can cats see on?

Answer: 2- Like some Commoners with talents

Cats can observe two out of the seven planes. Bartimaeus states that there are more, but they are not of any use, and those who use them are showing off.
3. What does Nathaniel threaten Bartimaeus with if he doesn't carry out the order?

Answer: Infinite Confinement

When Bartimaeus finds out Nathaniel's real name, Nathaniel threatens to confine Bartimaeus in a tobacco box filled with rosemary, which is bad for any djinn's essence.
4. Where were seven league boots invented?

Answer: Europe

Seven league boots are "highly potent magical devices invented in medieval Europe." Normal Earth rules of time do not apply, allowing the wearer to cover large distances in short time.
5. Who is in charge of the Mourning Orbs?

Answer: Jessica Whitwell

The Mournful Orbs are orbs in the Tower of London, used to imprison spirits. The orbs slowly decrease in size. When these orbs touch a djinni, the effect is fatal.
6. Until when was Makepeace's Swans of Araby sold out?

Answer: End of January

Swans of Araby is barely mentioned in this book, just as "eastern piffle" by Mr. Underwood. More is told about it in "The Golem's Eye".
7. Which of the following is NOT a charachteristic of Simpkin?

Answer: He can see into all seven planes.

Bartimaeus detests him, as not only does Simpkin not hate his master (Sholto Pinn), he likes to work for his master!
8. When Bartimaeus changes into a raven near the tower of London, what mistake is there in his transformation?

Answer: He has a blue beak

Bartimaeus makes this mistake as it is his first time transformation as a raven. Faquarl points the mistake out.
9. Which of these items are not there in the Squalls and Son truck?

Answer: French Champagne

Nathaniel manages to read a whole lot of labels in just a short peek.
10. Which of these are higher than afrits?

Answer: Marids

Above djinn are the afrits, and then the marids. Above marids are higher entities like Ramuthra, but they are rarely summoned.
