Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start with a classic anthem. "You keep on saying you'll be mine for a while // You're lookin' fancy and I like your style // You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy." Who is this?

Answer: Kiss - "Rock And Roll All Nite"

When instructed to write an 'anthem', this is what Kiss came up with - and I'd say they did a very good job! It was originally found on their 1975 album, "Dressed To Kill," but the version later recorded on their live album "Alive!" helped propel the band to superstardom and the song has now become one of their best known and most popular.
2. "You want it all but you can't have it // It's in your face but you can't grab it." What is the band and song here?

Answer: Faith No More - "Epic"

This track was released on Faith No More's 1989 album "The Real Thing" and was their biggest (or maybe their only) hit single. It combined funk, metal and rap which lead to it being, for good or bad, a major influence on the nu-metal/rap-metal styles to later emerge.
3. "No place to hide // You were fighting as a soldier on their side // You're still a soldier in your mind // Though nothing's on the line" Who is this?

Answer: Arcade Fire - "Intervention"

An organ-driven political rant by Canadian, orchestral, indie rockers Arcade Fire. It was released on their 2007 album "Neon Bible."
4. "Happy and I'm smiling // Walk a mile to drink your water." Guess the band and song.

Answer: Jethro Tull - "Living In The Past"

One of the best known songs from the progressive/folk rock band Jethro Tull. The song is well known for its distinctive flute and bass guitar intro and its unusual 5/4 time signature.
5. "Swinging on the front porch // Swinging on the lawn // Swinging where we want // Cause their ain't nobody home." Who dreamt up these imaginative lyrics?

Answer: Warrant - "Cherry Pie"

Warrant's 1990 album was complete until the record label told them to write a marketable single to go with it. That's when vocalist Jani Lane came up with this piece of glam metal madness. It became a big hit for them but, much to Jani's disappointment, 'Cherry Pie' is the only thing his band is remembered for which isn't the greatest legacy to have.
6. "Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels // Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields." Who sang this?

Answer: Jackson Browne - "Running On Empty"

Jackson Browne is best known for his deep, introspective, socio-political lyrics (along with writing a load of songs for the Eagles). However, he lowered his sights slightly when he released the 1977 concept album, "Running On Empty," about life on tour with songs recorded in various locations from on-stage to on the tour bus or even in the hotel room.

The title-track has since become a fan favourite.
7. "When everything's made to be broken // I just want you to know who I am." Who is this?

Answer: The Goo Goo Dolls - "Iris"

The Goo Goo Dolls were originally a post-grunge punk band but, towards the end of the 90's, singer John Rzeznik began writing some ballads which quickly changed them into soft rock, platinum selling giants. "Iris" was part of the soundtrack to the film "City Of Angels" and was also included on their 1999 album "Dizzy Up The Girl." It became their biggest single.
8. "Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true // Baby then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do." So who might this be?

Answer: The Beach Boys - "Wouldn't It Be Nice"

The opening track off the classic 1966 album, "Pet Sounds." The album became very influential because of its unusual variety of instruments and psychedelic sounds. It has topped many 'Greatest Album Ever' lists and polls and this is one of the most widely known tracks.
9. "Can it be there's some sort of error // Hard to stop the surmounting terror // Is it really the end not some crazy dream." Who is this?

Answer: Iron Maiden - "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

This is a real metal epic. It narrates the story of a man being sent to the gallows, but of course in an exciting Iron Maiden style. It was featured as the closing track to their 1982 release "The Number of the Beast," the first album the feature Bruce Dickinson on vocals.
10. "Invisible airwaves crackle with life // Bright antennae bristle With the energy." Who is this?

Answer: Rush - "The Spirit Of Radio"

Whilst Neil Peart's lyrics here might be confusing, the rest of the song is a great showcase of prog rock talent from the Canadian three-piece. Rush added pop choruses and hooks to the progressive rock sound and combined it with superb musicianship. This came from their 1980 offering, "Permanent waves," which became their first top five album.
