Answer: Hamilton Road

Hamilton Road has been developed over the past 30 years and houses some of the most modern, purpose built yards in the town.
2. What was the name of Lester Piggott's yard when he took up training upon his retirement from race riding?

Answer: Eve Lodge Stables

When Lester retired from race riding in 1985, he started training at Eve Lodge Stables, a new purpose built yard in Hamilton Road. At his peak, the stables housed 97 residents and sent out 34 winners.
3. What event happened in 1987 which halted Lester Piggott's training career?

When Lester was released from prison, he had so few horses left in the yard, that he decided to give up training and resume race riding in 1990. He successfully won the Breeders Cup Mile that same year, at the age of 54.

Bruce Hobbs began training at Palace House Stables, the oldest yard in Newmarket in 1965 and remained there for the next 20 years. Hobbs started his career as assistant trainer to Sir Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, the stepfather of Henry Cecil. Palace House stables was later refurbished into a visitor centre attached to the Palace House heritage centre.

Harry Wragg had a successful career as a trainer after retiring from race riding, handing over the reins to his son Geoff in 1983. Geoff is a consistently successful trainer.

His supreme moment was winning the 1983 Epsom Derby as a rookie trainer with Teenoso.

Ed Dunlop was assistant trainer to Alex Scott at the Maktoum al Maktoum owned Gainsborough Stables in Hamilton Road. When Scott was tragically shot by his stud groom in 1994, the Maktoum's promoted Ed to be their trainer. He rewarded them by winning the 1995 Derby with the undefeated Lammtarra, although he always gave credit to Alex for training then colt on from his 2-year old campaign.
