Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers had the chance to enjoy a Thai massage in Bangkok, Thailand in Leg 1. If they had to stop the massage, what would happen?

Answer: They would need to start over

Racers headed to Bangkok in the first leg of the race, receiving a Detour clue when they found the cluebox at Wat Suthat. The options were clear. With 'Sword Play', racers could visit a city park to learn a traditional dance involving a sword called a darb. If they could get the thirty-second routine down, they could get their next clue. With 'Spa Day', teams could endure a thirty-minute Thai massage, to get their next clue. Most teams opted for this latter challenge, holding on during a bout of intense pain to get their Pit Stop clue in the defined amount of time. Only one team asked the masseuse to stop, meaning they had to start the timer over halfway through the session.
2. Going into rural Thailand in Leg 2, teams could choose either 'Scoop Up' or 'Stock Up'. Which of these items did teams not need to get for the 'Stock Up' task?

Answer: Pomelo

Racers who headed to 'Stock Up' needed to grab a shopping list at the Don Wai Market and use it to purchase items for a local restaurant. Using a phonetic list and provided quantities, Jocelyn and Victor, Todd and Ashlie, Andrea and Malaina, and Elizabeth and Iliana all ended up finishing this task.

Pomelos were the focal point of the 'Scoop Up' Detour task for which racers needed to hop into boats and collect five massive baskets-worth of pomelos from the canals of a local farm. Rob and Corey, Greg and John, Morgan and Lena, Steve and Anna Leigh, Joe and Ian, Joel and Garrett, Liam and Yeremi, and Robbin and Chelsea all completed this one.
3. How many Detours did teams encounter in Can Tho, Vietnam?

Answer: Two

Arriving in Can Tho, Vietnam in Leg 3, racers had to choose either 'Paper' or 'Plastic' for their Detour, engaging with one of two local industries to get their next clue. 'Paper' was selected by more teams, asking them to learn how to make rice paper from a local demonstration. Making a dozen proper sheets would give them their clue. 'Plastic' proved tough for a small amount of teams as they headed to an auto shop to apply a piece of vinyl to a single piece of automotive casing.

The fourth Leg of the race followed immediately after teams arrived at their third Pit Stop, and it meant a second Detour. This time, teams could complete 'Stand' or 'Deliver', the former asking them to replicate a market stand at Cho Tan An and the latter having them deliver a mattress through the city.
4. Which Indian landmark hosted the 'All Dolled Up' and 'The Big Picture' Detour options that teams encountered in Leg 5?

Answer: Jaigarh Fort

Jaipur, India hosted teams in Leg 5 and it was there, leaving the Amber Fort, that teams had to hop into a rickshaw and complete one of two tasks at the nearby Jaigarh Fort for their Detour, both relating to different art forms from the region. 'All Dolled Up' asked teams to work with puppets, creating two marionettes in the Kathputli tradition to the approval of a puppeteer and making them dance to get their clue while 'The Big Picture' had teams replicating Rajput paintings, adding themselves into unfinished versions in the landmark.

The latter challenge only had six stations, so Todd and Ashlie had to join Steve and Anna Leigh, Joel and Garrett, and Rob and Corey at 'All Dolled Up' while Morgan and Lena swapped later on while and the other teams finished 'The Big Picture'.
5. Which team was the recipient of the most U-Turn Votes in Jaipur in Leg 6?

Answer: Steve and Anna Leigh

Only two teams of the nine still in the race in Leg 6 received votes with Steve and Anna Leigh being enough of a threat as frontrunners to take five votes to Robbin and Chelsea's four. This meant that when they reached the Detour clue at the SD Masala Spice Shop, they would have to do both the 'Bundles' and 'Bricks' Detour tasks while the others only had to complete one or the other. Both involved moving things around in the busy streets of Jaipur with 'Bundles' having them transport flowers to local temples and 'Bricks' sending them through the city with a cycle rickshaw full of bricks and building supplies.
6. In Leg 7, racers visited Germany. What did they need to eat in the 'Matter of Taste' Detour task?

Answer: Mustard

Teams had to make kicks or feel a kick in Leg 7, approaching one of two Detour tasks in the city of Cologne, Germany. In 'Just For Kicks', racers played soccer/football, kicking velcro footballs at a giant dartboard with the aim of hitting four balls and getting exactly 66 points. Racers completing 'Matter of Taste' instead enjoyed a mustard taste test at the nearby Hafenterrasse, enjoying nine different mustards and then identifying and naming them by their German names to get their next clue. Only Rob and Corey were able to finish 'Just For Kicks'.
7. In Legs 8 and 9, racers completed Detour tasks in the rural reaches of what European nation?

Answer: Slovenia

Although teams headed in and around Ljubljana, Slovenia in the eighth and ninth legs of the race, both Detours were completed outside the capital. The one encountered in Leg 8 had teams choosing between working the hay fields to aid local farmers and building an apiary for the bees of the countryside.

The ninth leg held its on a fish farm in a small Slovenian village, having teams either scraping barnacles off of fish farming units or collecting mussels from the waters of the Adriatic Sea.
8. In the 'Serve' Detour in Leg 10, racers had to sort through dishes typically served at what Swedish event?

Answer: Nobel Banquet

While several teams headed to a recycling facility for the 'Sort' side of the Detour, teams who headed to 'Serve' had to wait a table at a Nobel laureate dinner in a complex language/memory task. For this, one racer had to memorize three-course meals for four diners, all seated at a table, all of whom had won prizes in past years.

The catch was that not only were these menus in French, but they had to match the year of the menu with the seated diners. Then, they had to relay those dishes to their partner without an aid, and their partner needed to properly hand off the dishes so the first racer could attend to the seats and get the next clue. Only Greg and John did this task.
9. How many teams completed the 'Brew' Detour task in Ireland in Leg 11?

Answer: This was not an option

Leg 11, the race's penultimate leg, took teams to Dublin, Ireland for their last set of tasks. The catch, however, is that racers didn't encounter a Detour. Instead they faced two Road Blocks, each of which required a different team member complete each challenge. What this meant was that racers faced a fairly linear series of tasks, offering no opportunity to avoid the challenges laid out in front of them and forcing them to contend without making critical mistakes.
10. How many legs, of the twelve featured in this race, did not feature a Detour task?

Answer: Two

Racers faced ten total Detours in this season of the race with only Legs 11 and 12 omitting the key task. Interestingly, Leg 11 (like Leg 7 in Germany) featured two Road Blocks. The catch is that the leg taking placed through Frankfurt and Cologne also had a Detour waiting at its conclusion-- a rare case for any leg of the race. Leg 12 did not feature a Detour though this is not uncommon.

Instead, teams faced non-linearity in the form of the Scramble.
