Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening sequence, a woman is furiously typing away on some ancient relic of a typewriter. The actress that portrays Alice in this episode may be quite familiar to some viewers from numerous appearances in film and on Broadway. Her first name is Amy. What is her last name?

Answer: Irving

Amy Irving makes a special guest appearance in this third episode of the seventh season of "House". She was once married to Steven Spielberg although they divorced in 1989.
2. Alice has just finished what she declares will be her final literary effort. She is obviously quite distraught. She sits behind her desk and places a revolver in her mouth. What happens as she pulls the trigger?

Answer: She experiences a seizure.

Alice, visibly shaking and upset, unsteadily points the gun near her chin. At the very moment when she pulls the trigger, she suffers from a violent seizure. The bullet narrowly misses her. The maid rushes in to find Alice convulsing on the floor.
3. As House visits the hospital room of Alice, appearing to pilfer through Alice's gifts, Wilson enters the room. House laments to Wilson that House's relationship with Cuddy may be ultimately doomed for which of the following reasons?

Answer: House and Cuddy appear to have nothing in common outside of work.

House is in Alice's room rummaging through her gifts. He picks up some stuffed toys and makes a childish joke. House then seriously asks Wilson about what House and Cuddy have in common. Wilson is slightly flustered since he can't really think of a suitable answer. House poses, "Name one thing that Cuddy and I have in common besides work." Wilson is unable to readily identify any commonality, so House engages in a logical discourse on how the relationship will ultimately fail.
4. House has a conversation with Alice in her hospital room. It starts out pleasantly enough until House suggests that Alice tried to commit suicide. Alice abruptly terminates the talk and insists that she is leaving. How does House prevent her from leaving?

Answer: House issues a 72 hour psychiatric hold for suicidal patients.

The mere suggestion of suicide dramatically changes the texture of the conversation. Alice insists upon being discharged immediately. House objects since he implies that they had a deal. Alice says, "Try and stop me." House complies by issuing a three day psychiatric hold for patients who potentially present a danger to themselves.
5. House calls in the team to discuss Alice's case. The team expresses some reluctance in taking the case, but House insists. Which of the team members is allowed a respite for the evening?

Answer: Chase

The members of the team express their reluctance to take the case. House espouses his fondness for the author of an admittedly limited genre. Foreman says, So, we're taking this case because you are a fan of the series?" House replies, "No, that would be crazy and unprofessional. We're taking the case because I said so." Nevertheless, Chase is allowed to take the evening off because he has a "hot date."
6. House invites Cuddy along on an exploratory mission to discover more about Alice. Cuddy suddenly realizes that they are not on a date. Cuddy is a bit exasperated and exclaims, "Did you steal her keys?" Did House enter the Alice's home uninvited?

Answer: Yes

Of course, he did. When Cuddy suggests that House must have stolen the house keys, House innocently replies, "Do you think I'd take Dean of Medicine on a "B&E?" The maid then enters the room and asks," How did you get in here?" House calmly replies, "I guess you have your answer."
7. House is sitting with the other members of the team. They are happily engaged in eating what appears to be take-out Chinese food. House suddenly demands their attention. What does House do?

Answer: House scrapes their lunch into a waste basket.

House determines that Alice's rise in blood pressure is due to a concomitant rise is adrenalin. House orders an MRI. The team members seem less than enthusiastic. House asks Chase to hold a trash receptacle. Chase obliges. Then, House scrapes all of their lunch into the trash bin. House demands, "I meant now!"
8. An MRI is administered to Alice. Complications develop since Alice neglected to inform the team about metallic implants in her leg. Citing one of his own more famous tenets, House writes what on the back of Taub's coat?

Answer: "Everybody lies."

Taub vigorously protests that it is not their fault. He exclaims that Alice signed the consent forms and indicated that she had no metal implants. House is indignant and writes, "Everybody lies," on the back of Taub's lab coat.
9. House and Cuddy go on a double-date with Wilson and his girlfriend. What activity do they engage in?

Answer: Go Karts

Cuddy is reluctant at first, but eventually has a great deal of fun. House says he got the idea from Cuddy's mother. While they are having fun racing, Cuddy is sideswiped. House avenges Cuddy by severing the line to a competing racer. Unfortunately, they are all banned from the arena from that point on. It is hilarious.
10. In order to relieve Alice's anguish and guilt over the tragic death of her son in a car crash. To what does House attribute the cause of the crash?

Answer: Jack suffered a brain aneurysm.

House displays an uncharacteristic degree of compassion when he tells Alice that she was not the cause of the crash. Cuddy realizes that this is not true, but she tacitly allows and even persuades House to continue the facade for the sake of the patient.

When Alice tells House that she will no longer write books for children. House is aghast. He is about to reveal the truth about Jack, when he notices Cuddy looking on. It is a truly poignant moment.
