Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the ship the crew arrives on in the opening minutes of the show?

Answer: Destiny

The ship, built by the ancients, is thousands of years old. Its systems are failing and it's too far from Earth for the new crew to just gate home.
2. Who earned his way onto the crew by playing a video game?

Answer: Eli

Eli Wallace was played by David Blue. He earned his way into the Stargate program by solving mathematical problems in a video game. Once he solved the problem, the U.S. Air Force showed up to recruit him.
The other three false options were not characters who appeared in the pilot episodes.
3. Alan Armstrong was a U.S. Senator in the show. What state was he from?

Answer: California

He was on the expedition to see how the $1.6 billion they poured into the program was being spent. The expedition, to a base called Icarus, was an attempt to connect a Stargate to a 9-chevron address. Most addresses were 7-chevrons, while it was later discovered that an 8-chevron address would go to a different galaxy.

A 9-chevron lock had never been attempted before. Armstrong was played by Christopher MacDonald.
4. Three members of the original Stargate 1 team from "Stargate: SG-1" appeared in the episode. Who was missing?

Answer: Teal'c

Jack O'Neill was the one who recruited Eli. Daniel Jackson was the person in the Stargate training videos. Samantha Carter was the commander of the Hammond ship that took people from Earth to Icarus Base. Only Teal'c was missing from the original team.
5. How many ships attacked the base, causing the evacuation?

Answer: 3

The ships were Ha'tak vessels thought to have been under control of the Lucian Alliance, though that was never confirmed. The Lucian Alliance was a group of humans, not from Earth, who became powerful after the destruction of the Goa'uld in "Stargate: SG-1".

The three ships attacked the base, forcing everyone to evacuate through the Stargate to the then-unknown destination. That turned out to be the ship Destiny.
6. Stargate Command was aware that the people on the base made it off safely.

Answer: False

While the Hammond survived the destruction of the planet that Icarus Base was on, the people on board had no idea the fate of those who had been left at the base. They knew the Stargate was active for about 6 minutes before the planet exploded, but had no idea where the people might have gone.
7. After dropping out of faster than light travel, the ship set a timer for an expedition to the planet. How long did the team have to find the necessary supplies?

Answer: 12 hours

The Co2 scrubbers were broken, but the ship sensed that and took the crew to a planet where the necessary parts to repair them could be found. Once on the planet, a 12 hour timer started. At the end of the 12 hours, the ship moved on with the mission, whether the team had returned or not.
8. Who gave his own life to fix a hull breach on the ship?

Answer: Sen. Armstrong

He was badly injured from the attack on the base and chose to give his life to save the rest of the 80 or so people on board. He went into the damaged shuttlecraft and repaired the hull before he died.
Armstrong was played by Christopher MacDonald.
Dr. Daniel Jackson was played by Michael Shanks. Gen. Jack O'Neill was played by Richard Dean Anderson and Lt. Samantha Carter was played by Amanda Tapping.
9. How did Dr. Rush manage to contact Earth?

Answer: He used an ancient communication stone.

He used an ancient communication stone without the presence of anyone on the expedition seeing it. He told them that he reached out to Earth, and was put in charge of the team. The team didn't believe him at first, and he declined to allow them to use the stones to reach out to Earth themselves. Rush was played by Robert Carlyle.
10. What was the climate like on the planet that the ship took them to?

Answer: Desert

The desert planet was mostly sand. It was hot but had breathable air for humans. A team of six people went to the planet to search for deposits of lime. Once on the planet, they split into two teams and went in opposite directions in order to give themselves a better chance of finding what they needed.
