Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Upon arriving at the Profaned Capital, right next to the bonfire lays a corpse. This isn't just any corpse however, it appears to be the remains of an NPC from "Dark Souls 2" making a cameo of sorts. Who is it?

Answer: Laddersmith Gilligan

Gilligan's body lies amongst a small pile of mostly destroyed ladders. As his title suggests, he sold the player three different types of ladders among other goodies in "Dark Souls 2".
2. Fighting Yhorm the Giant without the Storm Ruler is a common type of challenge run for this boss. It's much more doable than his massive health bar would suggest, mainly because he has a 'weak spot' and hitting this spot enough times will cause him to go down for a riposte. Where is Yhorm's weak spot?

Answer: Main hand

If Yhorm's right arm is struck enough times, it will cause him to go down. The player must be very diligent though, as Yhorm regains his poise at an abnormally high rate.
3. Aldrich, Devourer of Gods is right in the middle of cannibalizing Dark Sun Gwyndolin when the player arrives in his boss room. As we can see from his grotesque appearance, Gwyndolin is not the only "Dark Souls 1" name fallen victim to Aldrich. Who else has Aldrich taken?

Answer: Gravelord Nito

Aldrich's upper body is the same as Gwyndolin's, an effect taking place due to Aldrich's consumption of Gwyndolin. In similar fashion, his entire lower body is completely identical to that of Gravelord Nito. This is later confirmed in the game's lore.
4. Oceiros the Consumed King constantly screams at the player about his obsession with Ocelotte. Oceiros was Ocelotte's father, but as it turns out, Oceiros has two other important sons. Who is one of them?

Answer: Lothric

Oceiros was the former king of Lothric before his obsession with power eventually corrupted him. Lothric and Lorian are two of his sons, though he appears to be much more concerned with Ocelotte during the course of his fight.
5. Returning from "Dark Souls 1" is the Demon Ruins map. Countless numbers of dead demons lay around the ruins, and the area appears to have been abandoned as opposed to how incredibly active it was in the aforementioned game. The Old Demon King is the boss, and he seems to be the only alive demon left by this point. Is he the last living demon in the game's world?

Answer: No

As the Ringed City DLC would reveal, the last living demon is actually the Demon Prince. Given that no demons are encountered anywhere between the Old Demon King and Demon Prince, it is reasonable to assume that the Old Demon King is the second to last demon alive at the point he is encountered,
6. A good number of items from "Dark Souls 2" returned to this game. Which of the following is an example of an item?

Answer: Shield of Want

It is important to note that, of Fume Knight's two weapons, it was the Fume Ultra Greatsword, and not the Fume Sword, which makes an appearance in this game. The Shield of Want interestingly got a complete stat makeover transitioning to this game, and not in a good way.

It's absorptions all got nerfed very harshly coming over in exchange for granting the user a slight increase in souls earned while it is equipped. If you already planned to two-hand a weapon, then you may as well equip this in your offhand as you'd still get the boost in souls anyway.

In terms of actual practical combat value, this shield has virtually nothing going for it due to its horrendous stats.
7. During Soul of Cinder's second phase, he channels the soul of the very first Lord of Cinder to transition to his second phase, in a last ditch desperation effort to defeat the player. Which prominent character from "Dark Souls 1" does the Soul of Cinder call upon here?

Answer: Gwyn

The first Lord of Cinder himself responds to the call and seamlessly grants his power to the Soul of Cinder. Unfortunately, Gwyn's power has heavily decayed by this point, and his healthpool is relatively minuscule given that this is the very last boss of the game. Soul of Cinder's moveset gets a complete makeover, copying pretty much all of Gwyn's attacks. Soul of Cinder's death animation is even plucked straight from this fight, along with the accompanying soundtrack to boot.
8. Though the Crystal Sage boss fight may seem positioned in a random location, it turns out he's in proximity to a close ally of his, and one who the lore suggests wanted to keep their alliance with the Sage a secret. Who is the Crystal Sage allied with?

Answer: The Undead Legion of Farron

The Crystal Sage has gifted the Abyss Watchers who reside within this covenant with numerous magical trinkets to assist their fighting prowess. The lore doesn't clarify what the Watchers do to aid the Sage, if anything at all, but it is clear that the two have a pact of some kind.
9. Slave Knight Gael's weaknesses and resistances greatly change as he transitions to his second phase. Oddly enough, one of his newfound weaknesses is to a single, specific weapon. What weapon is this?

Answer: Hollowslayer Greatsword

The Hollowslayer Greatsword deals largely increased damage to hollows, as the title of the weapon clearly suggests. Due to this, it can be assumed that Gael goes hollow as he transitions to his second phase. Supplementing this notion is his drastic change in fighting style along with a large change in his general demeanor.
10. Sister Friede fights with her signature Great Scythe at hand. During second phase, it turns out Friede must've invested some points into Faith because she will occasionally cast one Miracle only during this phase. What Miracle is it?

Answer: Heal

This mostly serves to ensure that the player cannot simply ignore Friede and pick on the much less defensively inclined Father Ariandel. If they do, a significant portion of progress will be lost as she can heal the tandem with this spell. She does not use it at all in either first or third phase.
11. Across the entire franchise, summoning players has proven to be worth buffing the HP of the boss. For Halflight Spear of the Church, however, the boss is a real life player who will gain a unique benefit if the challenger brings help. For every helping hand, what stat of this boss will be buffed in addition to health?

Answer: Poise

This was likely done to ensure that a group of players couldn't basically jump the Halflight player as they're spawning into the match. Poise will allow this player to take a hit from one of the challengers but avoid being stunned and able to immediately retaliate.

The more helpers the challenger brings, the greater the blow the Halflight player can take without being stunned or knocked back.
12. Particularly challenging bosses are best approached by striking at their biggest weakness. Darkeater Midir certainly meets the criteria of a challenging boss. What is Midir weak to?

Answer: Nothing

Midir is immune to all forms of status and resistant to every damage type in the game. He is least resistant to Lightning, but as he still resists it, it cannot properly be called a weakness.
13. Though it may not seem it due to their identical aesthetics, there is an important decision to be made when deciding which of the two Twin Demons the player should slay. What impact does this decision make?

Answer: The moveset of second phase

The Demon Primce's moveset is directly influenced by whichever demon was killed first during the first phase. If the Demon in Pain is killed first, the Demon Prince will play much more conservatively, and will be intent to make distance on the player, throwing fireballs, closing the gap with dive attacks and spawning slow moving fireballs with homing properties. If the Demon from Below is killed first, the Demon Prince will be significantly more aggressive, utilizing melee attacks much more and being able to blast a very deadly laser out of its mouth.
14. The Champion's Gravetender & Greatwolf fight starts off with only the Gravetender and a couple small wolves attacking the player at first. The player will want to move quickly, as the Greatwolf isn't far behind. When does the Greatwolf appear?

Answer: Once the Gravetender hits half health

In an interesting twist in a well established formula, instead of being time based, it's based on health. The concept of "gank fight where one of the duo comes in late" had always been time based up to this point. This gives the player a nice edge, as they can afford to take their time eliminating the wolves first as to get a better numbers situation before engaging the Gravetender. Once the Gravetender hits half health, he will raise his right hand to beckon the wolf forward.

This maneuver unsurprisingly has infinite poise, meaning the player cannot interrupt it.

It is possible to have the Gravetender killed before the Greatwolf arrives, but the player absolutely has to act quickly as the Greatwolf will arrive mere seconds after being summoned.
15. As the player travels through the Dreg Heaps, they'll interestingly find messages left behind. These messages aren't left behind by real life players like they always are, but instead, an NPC has advised the player to "take the plunge, you won't die" three different times. Who is guiding the player in this way?

Answer: Slave Knight Gael

When viewing these messages, a silhouette of Gael pointing in the direction he wants the player to jump is seen. Gael has been helping the player progress to this point, as he was an available NPC summon for help fighting Sister Friede, and he will eventually serve in the same capacity to help fight the Demon Prince at the end of the Dreg Heaps.
