Answer: Vicksburg

Grant's siege of the city began May 18, 1863 and continued until July 4, 1863. The news of the surrender did not reach Washington until July 7, 1863. The Fourth of July was not celebrated in Vicksburg until 1945.

Answer: Sherman's march to the sea

Sherman left Atlanta for his march to the sea. He encountered some resistance in Georgia, but on December 22, 1864 he wired President Lincoln and told him he presented him with the city of Savannah as a Christmas gift.

Answer: Bread riot

When the women of Richmond rioted because of the price of flour/bread Pres. Davis mounted a wagon gave a speech and gave them all the money he had in his pockets. He also gave the women 5 minutes to disperse - or troops would open fire on them. They dispersed.
