She died on January 16, 1942. Production on the film temporarily stopped, and receommenced on February 23rd. Ironically, the role he played in this film, Jonathan Davis, has a brother who is killed and the script contained painful lines about death. On his first day back, he announced that he would enlist in the Army Air Corps and when the filming was over, in August 1942, he enlisted. He went to England to make a motion picture of aerial gunners in action. He flew missions over Europe in B-17s to obtain combat film footage. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal and was relieved from active duty as a Major on June 12, 1944.
