Daine and Onua are attacked by Stormwings very early in their journey. Daine catches their queen, Zhaneh Bitterclaws, with an arrow through the eye and makes an enemy. They are attacked by spidrens later along the trail. The Griffins come to them at Pirate's Swoop, and the darkings don't make an appearance until "In The Realms of the Gods", the fourth book of the quartet.
