From Quiz
The Albums of Genesis

Answer: Charterhouse

Famed producer Jonathan King discovered the band at Charterhouse School in 1967, when they were called The Garden Wall. He changed their name to Genesis and produced their debut album. The album was packaged in a plain black and gold sleeve without the band's name on it and sank without trace, mainly due to record shops stocking it in their religious sections!

8. Under the direction of songwriter and producer Jonathan King, the band chose the name Genesis (over 'Gabriel's Angels') and produced their first album, which was released in 1969. What was its title?

From Quiz Genesis

Answer: From Genesis to Revelation

During the recording process, drummer Chris Stewart (who had been with the group to record their first single) was replaced by John Silver. At King's suggestion, the album featured a collection of songs based on the bible, and subsequent poor mixing and packaging left the album with very poor release numbers (initial sales of approximately 650). Following that shambles, the members of Genesis split with King (and Decca Records) to try and make their own go of it.
