1. This animal very sadly got caught in the under-stage mechanism during rehearsals and died of heart failure; Jonathan was to tell Maddie all about it, and later they were to go to the animal's funeral. What type of creature was this?

This was in the third episode ('The Reconstituted Corpse'). Adam Klaus was only seen once in the first series, and that was in the pilot episode - the rest of the time he was only talked about, and this was the first of those off-stage 'appearances' as Jonathan told Maddie what happened at the theatre.

2. In the episode, "The Seer of the Sands", between which two words does the harvest-fly land?

The cause of the suicide in this episode was a harvest-fly that rather unfortunately landed on a fax message, and appeared to be a comma.

3. What did Maddie do when Jonathan told her how Beryl Carney died?

Adam was horrified when he saw a small swastika attached to a ring which was attached to her body (we don't discover which part but it is obvious that it is a part usually hidden from view). As our favourite magician is lying in a hospital bed as he tells this tale, we can only assume that Elsa reacted violently to Adam's reaction to the discovery!

5. What was the name of the victim in 'The Wrestler's Tomb' - the very first Jonathan Creek?

Jack Holiday was the man found dead in the nuclear bunker, while Elliot Strange was found with a Samurai sword through him in a locked and barred room, and Marella Carney was the 'Black Canary' who committed suicide twice.

Tracy entered Roy Pilgrim's house at 4pm, and at the same time a small frog was put into the duplicate room some miles down the road, where Roy was handcuffed to the false radiator. This, along with his small radio tuned to Classic FM, established the time-frame for the singer who was able to furnish Jonathan with an additional, animal-based, clue.

7. In the series 3 episode, "The Omega Man", from what substance is the skeleton made?

The skeleton strangely vanishes into thin air in this episode. Jonathan works out that the mercury had melted and therefore appeared to vanish.

8. When in the Mother Redcap, Maddie was very nearly killed because of something she had done. What was this?

There was a booby trap in the room, where a previous landlord had rigged up the electric current to tiny little spikes under the floorboards. Maddie had taken her shoes off while Jonathan discovered the apparatus, and it was live when she went to stand on them barefoot. Jonathan leapt towards her and saved her life.

This was the episode 'The Scented Room', when Jonathan and Maddie discovered the whereabouts of a painting which disappeared from a tiny locked room in the space of thirty seconds. Adam was incarcerated in a coffin (but not buried) for an endurance event in 'The Chequered Box' and in that episode he has to end his challenge early as he is accused of looking up women's skirts.

10. Who murdered the judge in 'Mother Redcap', in which the victim was killed in a guarded room with his wife asleep in bed beside him?

The policewoman was extracting revenge for the deaths of her two policeman brothers who were killed by a murderer who was given a lenient sentence by the judge.

Maddie climbs up first, and vanishes. Mimi climbs up after her to find Jonathan on the other side of the locked door but Maddie nowhere to be found in the completely empty room. Great trick!

14. Throughout the first series Maddie would do the snooping around while Jonathan kept people talking, but in 'Time Waits for Norman' she turned the tables and sent him into the house to have a look around. What happened to him when he was in there?

We don't actually see anything here, but hear of the tragedy as the episode goes on. At the close of the programme we see Jonathan and Maddie return to her home from the elephant's funeral. The keeper was very understanding, saying that she had lived a good long life and that she was a star, and would have preferred to go working in a theatre rather than anywhere else. No animals were hurt during the filming of this episode!

17. Why was actress Vivian Brodie killed in 'Satan's Chimney'?

A chance request from Adam when at the theatre gave Maddie this clue; he had to explain what he meant by a technical term in order for her to pass something over to him. This reminded her of a time in the Inspector's office when Karen was able to pass a SOCO report to the policeman without hesitation. Karen was an undercover copper who had been working on this particular crime syndicate for many months. Please note that I have substituted some words in quotes in this quiz to make allowances for FunTrivia being a family site.

29. In the very first episode Jonathan and Maddie meet because another character, Francesca, met Jonathan at the theatre where Adam chose her from the audience to help with one of his illusions. What was that illusion?

Francesca was later to be employed as Adam's assistant, and then she took part in the trick involving the sarcophagus (Egyptian tomb) and miles of bandages! When she first went on stage with Adam it was to enter a shower and end up under the stage where she met Jonathan. Adam was played by Stuart Milligan from Series 2 onwards, but by Anthony Head in the first episode (the character was not seen in any other Series 1 episodes).
