Smash Gates are yellow chain link fences with a "Private Property" sign on them. Smash Gates usually mark the entrance or exit to a secret area or short-cut in Paradise City. There are four hundred in total, fifty in Palm Bay Heights, eighty in Downtown Paradise and ninty in Harbour Town, Silver Lake and White Mountain. Smashing all four hundred will unlock the Carson Carbon GT Concept.

The in-game challenge for shutting down the Inferno Van is called "You Just Hired the B-Team". The Inferno Van was modeled off of the B-Team Van from "Burnout 3: Takedown".

The junkyard is used because all of the cars that the player takes down throughout the game are sent there to be used by the player. The player must repair all vehicles via the Repair Shop if they wish for them to look like new.

Super Jumps are large ramps or jumps marked by glowing blue cones. There are fifty in total, ten in each district. Landing all fifty Super Jumps will unlock the Jansen Carbon X12. Super Jumps are widely used in Stunt Runs as they can easily earn the player multipliers.

Burnout Billboards are large red billboards with the "Burnout Paradise" logo on them. Billboards are usually found in short-cuts, on top of buildings and above jumps. There are one hundred twenty in total, thirty in Downtown Paradise, twenty-five in Harbour Town and White Mountain and twenty in Palm Bay Heights and Silver Lake. Smashing all one hundred twenty Burnout Billboards will unlock the Montgomery Carbon Hawker.

DJ Atomika is the in-game commentator and the DJ for Crash FM. DJ Stryker is from 'Burnout 3: Takedown', DJ Bandit is the Spanish Atomika and Diabolika is the French.

The 'Jansen P12 88 Special' is just like any other car whist driving around, but when the L3/LS button is pressed, the wheels retract and the car starts hovering. The car is an obvious reference to the DeLorean from the 'Back To The Future' series as it also leaves a trail of fire when it boosts.

There are five drive through outlets in the Paradise Mainland, one in each district. Diving through a Paintshop will randomly change the colour of your vehicle without the need of a Junkyard. Some cars, such as Carbon Vehicles cannot be painted and the message "This car cannot be painted" will appear.

The GT Flame is only obtainable after receiving your Burnout License (Unless you purchase the Time Savers pack). To get your Elite License, you need to win all Races, Marked Man, Road Rages, Stunt Runs, and any remaining Burning Routes since they don't reset after getting a new License unlike the other events.

The player starts out with this license and only one car. The player can upgrade their license after a few wins, and they will also gain another car.

Platinum paint can be added to the thirty-seven regular Paradise cars and their Burning Route versions. Gold paint is unlocked when you earn your Elite Licence. The majority of cars can be painted white from the beginning. Carbon Vehicles cannot be painted with Gold paint or Platinum paint.
