1. In which game did Yoshi make his first appearance?

'Super Mario World' was first released in Japan in 1990 and was a game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) console. The game is a side-scrolling platform game in which Mario must save Princess Peach from Bowser. This is the first game in which Yoshi appears. Mario and Luigi can ride on Yoshi and use his Koopa-eating abilities to help them complete levels of the game.

'Yoshi Touch and Go' (called 'Catch! Touch! Yoshi!' in Japan) was released in 2005 and was the first game featuring Yoshi to be released for the Nintendo DS handheld console. The game is more of an arcade game style with players trying to get the highest score on a particular level rather than having a series of levels which build up a storyline or quest. Rather than control the characters directly players manipulate the environment of the game by drawing on the DS's touchscreen or blowing into the microphone.

Usually, coins don't make that much of a difference. When you're Super Happy, though, previously inaccessible coins will appear and must be collected before the happiness wears off. Often they will come in very large groups, which can add a few dozen points to your score. Most notable are the coins that make the shapes of letters. One such letter is in each level, just after its mini-game or puzzle. If you put all the letters in order of the levels they appear in, they spell the message "You are Yoshi's great partner!" In a few cases, collecting all the coins in an area is necessary to get certain melons.

There are a total of 4096 possible paths you can take through Story Mode -- try playing all the "Level 4's" (which means you need all three hearts in each of pages 1 through 5)! If you find a white Shy Guy, keep him until the end of the level, and he will rescue one of your lost Yoshis (if you have any). Large Yoshi eggs will hatch into the unlockable black and white Yoshis, which will remain playable even if you start a new Story Mode game.

The Special Delivery is later, and requires you to avoid a giant centipede while simultaneously balancing the stack of precious melons. Perhaps the level got its name from this challenge.

'Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games' was first released for the Wii in 2007 and was official licensed by the International Olympic Committee. The game was released and themed to tie in to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and saw the rival companies of Sega and Nintendo team up by having both Mario and Sonic franchise characters competing against each other in the game. The game made much use of the Wii's motion controls to replicate various sporting events. Yoshi is one of the playable characters in the game and is a speed type character making him particularly suitable for events featuring races, however it is possible to play all the events as Yoshi.
