Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What you don't want to be is basic. What is the best way of asking the question about a particular blue jay?

Answer: What bird has a blue crest on its head with a spot of white and black and makes noisy calls? This bird also is the name of a Toronto Baseball team.

All of these answers are true but the wrong answers could be defined by so many different types of birds. When you are writing a quiz, think of including details that can only be defined by one of your answer options.

I was interested in reading that both boy and girl blue jays look the exact same. Males could be a pinch bigger, but that's about the only difference. I guess if you found an egg under one, you may suspect that it would be a girl bird also.

I was also surprised to hear that the blue jay was not a state bird from any of the United States. The cardinal bird is the state bird for seven states, making him the most popular choice for state birds.
2. You want to ask a question about monkeys that live in the Amazon, but you have an entire list of monkeys and you want to select the one that is NOT from the Amazon. Would it be appropriate to highlight the word NOT by using capital letters at this time?

Answer: Yes

The Tarsier monkey is NOT from the Amazon and when you want to pinpoint the "not" word, make sure that you put it in CAPITAL letters. This way it sticks out to the reader taking the quiz and he or she isn't fooled by you. You never want to use 'trick questions' or try to steer players in the wrong direction.
3. You want to ask a question about a frog. Which of these is a good question for the Animal Category?

Answer: What is the most poisonous frog on this planet?

All of these are good questions, but they are all not meant for the Animal Category of Fun Trivia. Let's break it down for you. Kermit would be perfect for the Television or Children's categories. Princess Tiana would be in Movies or Disney categories. There is a Video Game category for Frogger. Frogs, though, are real animals and belong in the Animals category.
4. You want to tell others about dog shows in the United States. What category would you place this type of quiz in?

Answer: Dog Shows Category

All of these are categories in Fun Trivia, under the 'dog' category. When creating a quiz you want to select the best category for your quiz. If you select the 'dog breed' category, there are quite a few more categories under this option too.

The three most popular shows in the United States are the "Westminster" along with "The National Dog Show" and the "AKC National Championship". The "Westminster" has been around since 1948. When you want to 'show' your dog there are certain things the judges look at to grade the dog on including the appearance and how they handle the course they are asked to walk or run, among other areas. You also want to be careful of your appearance as you walk your dog. Nothing flashy or colorful and just a plain outfit is perfect.
5. You submitted your "cat" quiz in the correct category and the editor has told you to check your capitalization and each question for correct punctuation. You don't understand. What is the right way to ask this question about the Maine coon cat?

Answer: What is the state cat of Maine? The answer is Maine coon cat.

You need to make sure that you are using only capitalization when needed for state names, or proper names. You also want to make sure that you check for spelling errors before submitting your quiz. You also want to make sure that you don't use multiple punctuation marks, one is sufficient.

The Maine cat is also known as the coon cat or the American coon. The cat is a very social and lovable cat. Some refer to it as a laid back kind of cat. A perfect nickname for them would be the 'gentle giant' due to their larger size. Some male Maine coon cats can weigh up to 18 pounds. The longest Maine coon cat was listed in the records book at 48.5 inches at one time.
6. You want to write a quiz about zebras. You've found the perfect website that talks about the rarest form of zebras, so you just copy and paste that into the quiz and are good to go. Is this considered plagiarism?

Answer: Yes

Plagiarism is highly illegal and totally unethical in an author's life. Plagiarism is defined as taking someone else's words and saying that it is your work. It's stealing, nothing less than that. Read the information from several websites and then write something in your own words. This is your time, as an author, to use your imagination and your work to be creative and have fun!

If you spot the Grevy's zebra you will notice his big ears. This type of zebra never needs a pair of glasses either, because they have great eyesight. Some of the zebras have been known to be over seven feet tall and the largest weighs over 900 pounds.
7. You're writing a quiz about animals and you have come to the giraffe question. You have the perfect question but can't seem to think of any interesting information. Do you really have to input interesting information on every question?

Answer: Yes

Expand on the interesting information. This is the part of you that shines as an author. Tell us more about the giraffe - maybe what he eats, where he lives and what color eyes he has. You may mention that giraffes are found in Africa. You could mention that he eats leaves and flowers on plants. When I was in Disney World I saw that they hang tree branches with leaves on the upper portions of trees so the giraffe can continue eating even after the tree is bare. They will eat approximately 75 pounds of leaves daily!

You want to make your interesting information about two or three sentences about the question and answer, but don't repeat the question and answer either. After all, anyone who has played the quiz will have seen both of these by the time they reach your additional information.
8. A great question would be to ask about whales. You may want to know which of these are beautiful and seen in places like, Sea World, but if you are going to ask a question with basic 'Fill In The Blank' (FITB), you generally want to use a small answer, like this: What is another name for the killer whale?

Answer: Orca

You want to keep your FITB answers short and you want to highlight in the "hint box" how many words the answer is. It helps if you mention how many letters the answer has too.

You never want to use any type of punctuation in FITB answers. If your answer requires an apostrophe in a word like "don't", change to multiple choice or two choices option. If your answer could be "jack-rabbit: you would not use as a FITB. The hyphen is a punctuation and again, not allowed.

If your answer is "four whales" you would also have the option of "4 whales". When you do this, you need to place the & sign between the two answers like this:

Four whales & 4 whales

Watching the Orca show at Seaworld is an amazing and beautiful experience. These animals can weigh over 8,000 pounds but are normally very gentle around humans. These animals can survive up to 45 years for females, however the male usually can only live to about 30 years old.
9. "I can sit and watch penguins all day long. They glide through the water and you can see them at many zoos, including the San Diego Zoo. How many penguins are currently at the San Diego Zoo?" Is this an appropriate question?

Answer: No

You can't ask a question where the answer may change in the future. I know that all things change, but asking a question about how many animals could rapidly change in days. Currently there are about 400, but let's say that they all have babies and the next thing you know you have 600 penguins. Little baby penguins are called chicks and sometimes nestlings.

You may want to ask about their sleeping behaviors. They can sleep pretty much anywhere, from standing up to lying in the water. They do have to watch out for leopard seals and other animals that like to eat them. While they enjoy eating fish, squid and shrimp in their diets.
10. When I was in Alaska, I biked the Tony Knowles Trail and saw the most beautiful animal ever. In my opinion, it was the most picturesque. I spotted the Alaska Moose and it was mammoth and beautiful! I want to ask about a question about this moose that I personally saw, but it's based on my opinion only. Could I ask a question based on my opinion?

Answer: No

Absolutely not, I'm giving my opinion and you may not agree with me. You want to give questions and answers that are backed up with facts!

I did see a moose in Anchorage, Alaska but I want to expand that there are over 1000 moose in that area and the chances of seeing a moose are really strong. There are signs posted all over telling you to keep a LONG distance between you and a moose or even a bear. Male moose can weigh up to 1400 pounds and you do not want to get in the way of that! They do say that if you do see a moose, back away slowly, however, if it starts running towards you, well, just run or quickly get behind a big tree.

If I was making a photo quiz, oh heck, that's a whole new quiz!
