Answer: no

He wasn't even nominated for this outstanding film role, although his co-star, Jack Lemmon won for Best Supporting actor in the film. The Best Actor winner that year was Ernest Borgnine for "Marty". "Mister Roberts" was also nominated for Best Picture, but again lost to "Marty".
