Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is "The Boss?"

Answer: Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen, from Freehold, NJ, USA, has had a long career, spanning from the early 1970s. He has recorded and performed alone and also frequently with The E Street Band. The nickname "The Boss" is said to have originated when he was very young and playing club gigs with his band. He took on the job of collecting the money for the gigs and distributing it amongst the band members.
2. Who was "the quiet Beatle"?

Answer: George

George Harrison was known as "the quiet Beatle" because he was the most introspective of the group and tended to speak much less than the others during interviews. Paul was "the cute Beatle", John was "the leader" (at least in the beginning), and Ringo was "the sad Beatle", because of his tendency to not smile in pictures.
3. Which of these can be correctly identified as "The King"?

Answer: Elvis Presley

"The King" is short for "The King of Rock and Roll", a title Elvis earned by being one of the earliest rock performers in the 1950s. He was certainly one of the first rock performers to catapult into fame. His records sold millions of copies, his shows were sold out, and women went crazy over him.

By the third time he appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show", he was only shown from the waist up because his "vulgar movements" were considered dangerous for the moral well-being of young ladies. His status as "King" can still be seen today, years after his death, through the way that many religiously believe he is still alive, and through the massive number of Elvis impersonators in the world.
4. What is "Flea's" real name?

Answer: Michael Balzary

"Flea" has been the bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers since 1983, a band he formed with his high school classmate Anthony Kiedis. The name "Flea" originated during a ski trip with Kiedis and mutual friends Keith Barry and Tony Sherr. The group got into a lot of mischief together and were one day joking around about calling each other by "cartoon nicknames". Michael's stuck apparently and has been known as simply "Flea" for over two decades. Keith Barry is still sometimes known as "Tree" as well.

Flea turned down the bassist position in Johnny Rotten's post-Sex Pistols band Public Image, Ltd. to remain in RHCP with his friends. Flea has also had roles in numerous movies, including "The Big Lebowski"(1998), "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"(1998) and "Psycho"(1998).
5. Who are the "Glimmer Twins"?

Answer: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards

Mick and Keith are two of the most famous, and longest lasting rock stars in history. Despite years of hard living, womanizing, and drug abuse, they'll probably out-live us all. The nickname "the Glimmer Twins" apparently originated while they were in Brazil in 1969 and met a couple who vaguely recognized them.

When asked who they were, Mick and Keith refused to answer truthfully, so the other couple kept asking "Just give us a glimmer [as to who you are]". Mick and Keith liked this so much, they began to call themselves the "Glimmer Twins" while producing Rolling Stones' records.

They first used the name officially in 1974 when production of "It's Only Rock and Roll" was credited to "the Glimmer twins".
6. Who was "the Lizard King"?

Answer: Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, created an alter ego for himself called "the Lizard King". Morrison was interested in occultism and Native American mysticism. In the Native America tradition, deities are often embodied in animals, such as cows or birds. Morrison was fascinated with lizards, and his conception of "the Lizard King" was thought to be a recognition of a transcendent spiritual reality.

A line in The Doors' song "Not to Touch the Earth" reads "I am the Lizard King; I can do anything."
7. Who began calling herself "Mimi"?

Answer: Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey re-invented herself in 2005, after struggling personally and professionally for a couple of years. Her movie "Glitter"(2001) and its accompanying album of the same name, both proved to be flops. She suffered from a physical and mental breakdown around the same time, checked herself into a hospital and took a break from all public appearances. Upon her re-invention, she began calling herself Mimi, which she said was a childhood nickname.

Her 2005 album was called "The Emancipation of Mimi".
8. Who is the "Prince of Darkness"?

Answer: Ozzy Osbourne

It is not hard to imagine why Ozzy, the lead singer of Black Sabbath and accomplished solo artist, is called the "Prince of Darkness". From his heavy lyrics to glorified devil worship and Satanism, to his stage antics such as biting heads off bats, he's definitely no Greg Brady. Ozzy re-united with the original members of Black Sabbath and when they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005; they mooned the crowd.

He released another solo album in May 2007.
9. Who are "the Toxic Twins"?

Answer: Steven Tyler and Joe Perry

Tyler and Perry, the two most well-known members of the rock band Aerosmith, were dubbed "the Toxic Twins" in the 1970s because of their abuse of drugs and alcohol that almost ended their lives, let alone their careers. They are still sometimes referred to by this nickname, despite being clean and sober for the past 20 years. Though Perry left the band years ago, the two sometimes still appear together in public without the other members of Aerosmith. Because of the public attention given to Perry and Tyler, the other three members of the band are sometimes jokingly referred to as the "LI3" - the "Less Interesting Three".
10. Which of the following could be called "Diamond Dave"?

Answer: David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth is best known as the former lead singer of Van Halen. I'm not sure where the nickname "Diamond Dave" originated. In all his bios that I've been able to find online, he is called "Diamond Dave", but none explain why this is. The most that I've come up with is that it was a name given to him by his band mates in the very early days of Van Halen. If anyone does have another idea as to the origin of this name, please message me and let me know!

He joined that band in 1974 and was dismissed from the band in 1985, due to "differing views" with Eddie Van Halen. After leaving Van Halen, Roth put together a "supergroup" with Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan and Gregg Bissonette.
