Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of Cher's first album that was released in the year of 1965?

Answer: All I Really Want To Do

"All I Really Want To Do", Cher's first solo album, was released in 1965. The album even featured the hit single, "All I Really Want To Do", Cher's first hit single. When Cher went out on her last world tour, which was appropriately titled, "Living Proof-The Farewell Tour", Cher performed this song in a four-song medley.

The other three songs in this medley were "Half-Breed, "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves" and "Dark Lady".
2. Cher released 11 albums in the 1970s. How many were flops?

Answer: 6

The 1971 album, "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves", which was Cher's first album of the '70s, obviously sold big, featuring the singles, "The Way Of Love" and the number one title track, "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves". The hit title single was Cher's first number one hit in the USA. The 1973 album, "Half-Breed", sold extremely well; it featured Cher's second U.S. number one hit, "Half-Breed".

The first '70s album that flopped for Cher was the 1972 album, "Foxy Lady", although the hit single, "Living In A House Divided", was a major success from that album. In 1974, Cher released two albums; one was "Bittersweet White Light", the second album of the '70s to flop for Cher. The second in 1974 was "Dark Lady", Cher's third album of the '70s to sell hugely. The album's title track entitled, "Dark Lady", was Cher's last number one hit single in the U.S. The single, "Dark Lady", was included on the 1973 album, "Half-Breed", but Cher did not release it as a single until she made it the title track of her 1974 album of the same name.

From 1975 to early 1979, Cher released four more flopped albums to make it six. They were: "Stars" (1975), "I'd Rather Believe In You" (1976), "Cherished" (1977), and "Prisoner" (1979). In mid-1979, after the release of "Prisoner", Cher released her last album of the '70s entitled, "Take Me Home". The album, which did exceptionaly well on the charts, released its title track, "Take Me Home", as a single. The single would be Cher's last major hit until that of 1987.
3. In 1980, besides starring in the Broadway production of "Come Back To The Five And Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean", Cher fronted a short-lived rock band named Black Rose. What was the name of their, now rare, only album release?

Answer: Black Rose

The band decided to have their album self-titled. The album did not sell well at all. It was a major flop.
4. 1982 was the year for Cher to continue with her solo career. She released her first album of the '80s in June of 1982. Of course, the album flopped badly, despite in releasing four singles. What is the name of the album.

Answer: I Paralyze

"I Paralyze" was Cher's first album of the '80s, as well as the first album to feature Cher in her '80s rock image, complete with the big hair. The album was released in June of 1982. The album released four singles: "Rudy", "I Paralyze", "Walk With Me" and "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". Those four singles, just like the album, flopped.

But it is said that Cher's favorite single is "I Paralyze". There was even talk of Cher re-recording the song. In 1983, a year after this album was released, Cher decided to put the music on hold, while she focused more heavily on her acting skills.

She first starred in the film version of "Come Back To The Five And Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean", after already starring in the play version. In the same year of 1983, Cher starred, along side Meryl Streep and Kurt Russell, in the thriller film, "Silkwood".

In 1985, Cher starred in the drama film, "Mask". Cher gives a great performance in that film as Florence "Rusty" Dennis, the mother of a fourteen-year-old boy, who just happens to have a misshapen face.
5. In 1987, Cher decided music was to be back in her blood. She released her first album in five years. What is the name of Cher's 1987 album release?

Answer: Cher

The 1987 album, "Cher", released four singles, but only three of those four singles were hits. The first single is entitled, "I Found Someone", a song that was originally recorded by Laura Branigan, but it was not a huge hit for Laura. The album's second single was entitled "We All Sleep Alone". The third single was entitled "Main Man". The fourth and final single to be released from the album was entitled "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)". This Sonny Bono penned song was originally recorded by Cher herself back in 1966 for her second album, "The Sonny Side Of Cher". The song was a huge hit back then. But for this 1987 album, Cher decided to re-record the song, musically and vocally, in order to include it on this album. This re-recorded version features an all-out rock/heavy metal sound.

This 1987 album, "Cher", is not Cher's first self-titled album. In 1966, after releasing her second album, "The Sonny Side Of Cher", Cher had released her third album, "Cher", the first album to have been self-titled. The 1987 album is the second album to be self-titled.

1987, as it turns out, was an extraordinary successful year for Cher. The first part of that hugely successful year was Cher's first album release since 1982's "I Paralyze". But the success didn't stop with the music department. Cher had even starred in three films back to back to back. First, she starred, alongside Dennis Quaid and Liam Neeson in the suspense/thriller film, "Suspect" as Kathleen Riley. The second Cher film of 1987 is "The Witches Of Eastwick". The film starred Cher as Alexandra "Alex" Medford, Susan Sarandon as Jane Spofford, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Sukie Ridgemont, three girlfriends, who describe the things they look for in a man, which conjures up Daryl Van Horne (played by Jack Nicholson), who turns out to be The Devil himself. Through Daryl, Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer realize that they turn out to be...witches. The third and final Cher film of 1987 is "Moonstruck", where Cher plays the Italian-American widow, Loretta Casterini. Her role in "Moonstruck" helped Cher win the Academy Award for best actress in 1988.
6. In 1989, Cher released her last album of the '80s. This album spawned four hit singles, and the album was to be Cher's first most successful commercially released album, reaching, at the time of its release, triple platinum status. What is the name of this album?

Answer: Heart Of Stone

"Heart Of Stone" was the album for Cher to close out the '80s. Cher did this with a huge bang, for this album was the first album to be the most successful album for Cher. The first single from "Heart Of Stone" is the song, "After All". The song, which is actually a duet between Cher and Peter Cetera, was the love theme for the romantic comedy film, "Chances Are", starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Cybil Sheppard. Peter Cetera fronted the Rock band Chicago from 1968 to 1985.

The second single from "Heart Of Stone" was entitled "If I Could Turn Back Time". Obviously, this song became a huge hit, reaching the number three position in the U.S. The music video for this song was so controversial that it was restricted, by MTV, only to night airplay. The video, which is not a live performance, I might add, is filmed on a naval battleship, featuring all male sea sailors, who turn out to be fans of Cher. Cher performs the song with a full stage band, where she is dressed in her most risqué outfit to date. She wears a see-through outfit, with a black strap covering her chest and private area, with her tattooed buttocks being shown. This outfit is complete with a black leather jacket and Cher's big hair.

The third single from the album was entitled "Just Like Jesse James". Cher did not care for this song, but the song did become a huge hit, reaching the number eight position in the U.S.

The fourth and final single from "Heart Of Stone, is the album's title track entitled, "Heart Of Stone". Cher claims that this song is one of her all-time favorite songs. The song was a big hit, reaching the number 20 position in the U.S.
7. In 1991, Cher released her first album of the '90s. This album only spawned three singles, and only two of them were huge hits. This album, despite being an album of the early '90s, still featured Cher taking up her 80s Rock sound. What is the name of this album?

Answer: Love Hurts

"Love Hurts" is Cher's 1991 album. Three singles were released from this album and those singles were: "Love And Understanding", "Save Up All Your Tears", and "Love Hurts". "Save Up All Your Tears", which is my favorite Cher song, with "We All Sleep Alone" right behind it, was Cher's personal choice for the album's first single.

But for some oddball reason, "Love And Understanding" was chosen instead.
8. In 1992, after releasing a compilation album entitled "Bang Bang & Other Hits", Cher decided to take a break from music and film; her last film was 1990's "Mermaids". She spent the next four years filming infomercials for facial cream and exercising equipment. In 1996, Cher came back with the album that was supposed to bring her back into the game of music. But the album did not do so well as Cher had hoped, although the album's only two singles did Cher some good justice. What is the name of this supposed come-back album?

Answer: It's A Man's World

"It's A Man's World" was released in 1996, after Cher's early-1996 compilation album, "The Casablanca Years". This album was supposed to be Cher's come-back album, but Cher did not have luck with this one. But on the upside, Cher released only two singles from this album that did sell pretty well and they are "One By One" and "Walking In Memphis". This album features all songs that were covered by Cher. The reason for calling the album, "It's A Man's World", is that all the songs were originally recorded by male singers back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Plus, the last song on the album was entitled, "It's A Man's Man's Man's World", a song recorded by James Brown.

The U.K. edition of this album features fourteen tracks, wheras the U.S. edition only features eleven. The three tracks that are featured on the U.K. edition are entitled, "I Would Not Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me), "Don't Come Around Tonite", and "The Shape Of Things To Come". These three songs do not appear on the U.S. edition. On the U.S. edition, the following songs: "One By One", "Not Enough Love In The World", "Angels Running", "What About The Moonlight", and "Paradise Is Here" are all remixed. Those five songs are in their original recorded form on the U.K. edition.
9. In 1998, Cher released an album that did extremely well in sales and the charts. What is the name of this album?

Answer: Believe

"Believe" was a major chart-topper for Cher. The album's title track entitled, "Believe", was Cher's first single from the album, as well as being Cher's first number one single in the U.S., since 1974's "Dark Lady". The album spawned three more singles entitled, "Strong Enough" (the first video to feature Cher with blonde hair) "All Or Nothing" and "Dové L'Amore".
10. In 1999, the U.K. put out a greatest hits album for Cher, entitled, "Greatest Hits". First off, this album is not a worldwide release, since the U.K. and possibly other countries, have had releases of the album. On this "Greatest Hits" compilation, there is song on the album entitled "Love Can Build A Bridge", and it was recorded back in 1995 or 1996. Who performs the song?

Answer: Cher, Chrissie Hynde, and Neneh Cherry

Cher teamed up with Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry to record this beautiful song. Chrissie Hynde is a member of the infamous rock band The Pretenders. Performing the lead guitar solo in the instrumental bridge is actually Eric Clapton. Eric even appears in the video with the girls, where they stand on a platform, surrounding Eric, while he plays.

The platform on which they stand, is a platform of TV sets, showing images of poor families of different countries.
11. Cher, as a solo artist, has recorded four duets in her recording career as a solo artist. "After All" with Peter Cetera (on Cher's "Heart Of Stone" album), "One Small Step" with Richard Page (on Cher's "Love Hurts" album) and "Bewitched, Bothered, And Bewildered" with Rod Stewart (on Rod Stewart's "As Time Goes By...The Great American Songbook Volume 2" album) are three of Cher's four duets. With whom did Cher duet with on the song, "Dead Ringer For Love"?

Answer: Meat Loaf

Meat Loaf has had a string of successful hits including, "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "Paradise By The Dasboard Light" and "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad".
12. In 1990, Cher starred as Rachel Flaxx, for the comedy film, "Mermaids". In the film, playing Cher's daughters, are Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci, with Bob Hoskins playing Cher's boyfriend. For the film's soundtrack and main theme, Cher dug up a 1950s classic song and decided to cover the song. What is the name of the song?

Answer: The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)

"The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" was another huge hit for Cher. In the video, Christinni Ricci and Winona Ryder appear with Cher, while clips from "Mermaids" are played.
13. Cher has had only four world tours. Cher's 1989 tour was entitled, "The Heart Of Stone Tour". Cher's 1991 tour was entitled, "The Love Hurts Tour". Cher's 1999 tour was entitled, "The Do You Believe Tour". From 2002 to 2005, Cher held her final tour entitled, "Living Proof-The Farewell Tour". Which of these tours supported Cher's 1998 "Believe" album?

Answer: The Do You Believe Tour

Cher's "Living Proof-Farewell Tour" was taken to 150 cities in three years. On November 22, 2002, Cher's concert performance on the tour was shown live on NBC, where Cher performed in Miami, Florida. The show received a wide number, 1.5 million, viewers.

The concert's setlist sometimes varied in different cities, but for the most part, Cher stuck with the following setlist:

14. How many of Cher's albums featured different covers between the vinyl releases and CD releases (in the US)?

Answer: Two

Only two of Cher's albums featured different covers between the vinyl releases and CD releases. Those two albums are "Heart Of Stone" and "Love Hurts". The "Heart Of Stone" vinyl cover featured a black tone with Cher sitting in front of a big heart carved out of stone, whereas the CD verion of "Heart Of Stone" featured Cher in a black tanktop, necklace chains around her neck, with her name going up the left side and the album's title around Cher's stomach, written in a circle.

The "Love Hurts" vinyl cover featured Cher on both the top and bottom, but with different looks, where as the CD cover of "Love Hurts" featured a white background with Cher on the front, her arms surrounding her haed, while she wairs a straight red-rusted colored wig.
15. In 1996, before releasing "It's A Man's World", Cher released the album, "The Casablanca Years". These were all the songs she recorded, while under the label of Casablanca Records. The tracklisting of this album is actually that of two Cher albums, which were released in 1979. The first half of the album is the complete tracklist of the album, "Prisoner". What is the name of the other 1979 album that makes up the second half of "The Casablanca Years"?

Answer: Take Me Home

As it would turn out, "Prisoner", Cher's first album of 1979, was a total flop. Some fans may enjoy it, but it just didn't have any good luck. Cher's second 1979 album, "Take Me Home", was a better deal, although, the only hit from the album, "Take Me Home" (the album's hit disco title track) would be Cher's last hit until 1987.
