Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Predators and Prey" - Which rogue slayer did Buffy and Andrew go after?

Answer: Simone

Andrew had located the whereabouts of Nisha, who could lead them to Simone. She was entangled in the web of a Ragna spider demon. On the way to Nisha's location, Andrew talked endlessly of all his geek favs. He discussed, with no response from Buffy, about a Jedi defeating Superman, Vanity Smurf, Lee and Dualla from "Battlestar Galactica", Giles, Linda Hamilton being more important to fans than Arnold in the "Terminator" series, Helen Keller being reincarnated as Helen Killer, his sadness about Heath Ledger, dressing like Don Draper from "Mad Men", Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jem, and Daniel Craig as James Bond. Buffy stopped him there, as she could understand that one. She'd once experienced a fever interesting dream about Daniel in season eight, so they geek bonded over him.

This issue was written by Drew Z. Greenberg. Drew was writer on six "Buffy" TV scripts and story editor on over a dozen more.
2. In issue 23, "Predators and Prey", did Andrew admit to Buffy that he preferred Spike over Angel?

Answer: Yes

Andrew stated that after meeting Angel he could definitely say that he preferred Spike. Spike was edgier than Angel. Andrew met Angel in the fifth season of "Angel". He was on the same kind of mission as in this issue, out to recover a rogue slayer for the cause.

Her name was Dana, and Andrew used Angel and his team at Wolfram and Hart to capture her. Angel did not like being fooled, but let Andrew take Dana in the end. Andrew went on to tell Buffy, in this issue, that he liked her hair cut short better than long.

The first time the two came face to face was after Buffy had cut her hair very short in the "BtVS" season six episode "Gone".
3. Who'd re-created the once extinct Ragna spider demon featured in "Predators and Prey"?

Answer: Andrew

After they found Nisha, she told Buffy that the demon had been extinct until Andrew used recombinate DNA to recreate it. He was sorry and ashamed that he'd lied to Buffy by omission. But, he felt that losing Simone had been all his fault. He'd been her watcher and her turning bad had been his responsibility. So, he created this demon to capture her. Buffy had learned a lot in oh these many years, and knew better.

She was mad that he'd lied to her, but promised him Simone was not his fault. At the end, Simone was willing to trade Ragna for Andrew, but Buffy wasn't having it.

The remainder of Andrew's slayers showed up from Italy and helped in the rescue. Buffy set loose the demon onto Simone and her band of merry traitors and they left. At the end she welcome Andrew to the family, as he'd done all the things every single one of them had at some point.

He was speechless. Andrew, imagine that!
4. What was the name of the slayer Giles and Faith encountered at the start of issue 24, "Safe"?

Answer: Courtney

Courtney had bailed on her slayer outfit because she said they weren't accomplishing anything. She felt she was ready to be in the field, killing demons, while they sat back and did nothing. But then, when confronted with her first undead fiend, she panicked! She did stake a vamp shortly thereafter, and told Giles and Faith about the "slayer sanctuary".

This issue was written by Jim Krueger.
5. Was there a demon feeding off of people inside the town of Hanselstadt in the issue "Safe"?

Answer: Yes

Hanselstadt may have been named as an inside joke to the "BtVS" season three episode "Gingerbread". In that episode a demon appeared to Sunnydale residents as Hansel and Gretel of fairytale fame. It worked on their shame and regret, as did this issue's demon.

The town, supposedly a slayer sanctuary, was free from vampires. Giles and Faith followed Courtney there, where Giles met up with another council member, Duncan. Duncan was in cooperation with the demon. The vampires would not enter town because they were the very embodiment of human regret. Faith had to kill Ole Duncan, and convince the slayers living there that it was time to get into the fight.
6. Who was the "Living Doll" in issue 25?

Answer: Dawn

This was Dawn's third shape-shift. She'd been a giant at the start of season eight. Then, she had mysteriously changed into a centaur. Now, finally she was a wooden doll with a porcelain face. "Living Doll" was written by Doug Petrie. He worked on 110 episodes of "BtVS" and wrote two episodes of "Angel".
7. What did Dawn do that resulted in her being turned back into her old self in issue 25, "Living Doll"?

Answer: she apologized to Kenny

It was that simple! Kenny came along to help rescue Dawn from her captor. The captor was a doll maker living in a cottage in the woods. He resembled Geppetto from "Pinocchio" fame. Kenny burst into the cottage, in full thricewise form, and Dawn immediately apologized to him for sleeping with his roommate. That is what had started the entire mess to begin with.

She instantly turned back into the old Dawn Summers, as Kenny accepted her apology and also turned back into his human form. She explained that her intense feelings for him had caused her to do some dumb things and he said he understood.

There had been a few more nasty forms Dawn would have shifted into if they hadn't resolved the issue at this time. At the end of the issue, Dawn admitted to Buffy that she might have scratched one of her "Veronica Mars" DVDs. Nice pop culture reference here!
8. Issue 26, "Retreat Pt. 1", found Giles and Faith hiding out underground in which German city?

Answer: Berlin

In light of Harmony's vampire reality show, slayers had become the hated. So, above ground had not seemed safe, though Faith wasn't feeling too great about being below ground either. Not long after she'd voiced this concern to Giles, they were attacked! They escaped, and hopped on a train to get back to Buffy.
9. Because of all of the magical shields, Twilight was able to locate the latest slayer stronghold. How did everyone escape the massive demon attack on the castle?

Answer: a submarine

The magicks had been so strong that it became like a beacon leading Twilight to their location. The demons used tanks, catapults, napalm and the like to attack the castle. When all of the shields had collapsed, the team escape via submarine.

This issue was written by "BtVS" veteran Jane Espenson.
10. Who decided to go to Oz for help in "Retreat Pt. 1"?

Answer: Buffy

While inside the getaway submarine, Buffy and Giles began discussing Willow's use of so much magicks. They both knew it could lead her back to the bad place, and Buffy admitted she knew that was exactly what was going to happen. She told Giles about how she'd gone to the future and had to kill evil Willow.

He wanted more explanation, but knew they did not have time for it. Faith came in the room and told them that the rest of the slayers wanted to know if they knew where to head to next. Then, it hit Buffy she needed someone to help them use less magic.

The one person who was an expert at that was Oz, Willow's former werewolf boyfriend. Oz hadn't been seen or heard from since season four of the TV series, but apparently they did know where he was.

At the end of the issue, the submarine was seen parked in front of a temple or teahouse. Since Oz had once said Tibet was the place he'd learned to keep his wolf at bay, I am betting they landed there.
