Calvin is 'Tracer Bullet', from the comics 'Calvin and Hobbes'. Mickey Spillane is a pulp fiction writer. The name 'Sam Spayed' is probably inspired by Dashiell Hammett's 'Samuel Spade', probably the most famous private eye in pulp fiction history.
