Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The narrator of the story, Norman McKay, is a preacher. Which retired Golden Age hero did he befriend?

Answer: Wesley Dodds

Wesley Dodds, who was once the Sandman, became worried about the new breed of reckless heroes and vigilantes. He often quoted the Bible, but dies early in the series.
2. Norman McKay and The Spectre witness many scenes of violence as the story moves along, including the destruction of Kansas. What is the name of the hero whose death caused the tragedy?

Answer: Captain Atom

Magog and his Justice Battalion were fighting a weakened Parasite. In desperation, Parasite split Captain Atom open, and Captain Atom's radioactive energy decimated the land.
3. Green Lantern has built an emerald fortress in outer space. What is his real name?

Answer: Alan Scott

Alan, who is the only Green Lantern in "Kingdom Come", monitors possible threats from outer space. He is one of the first heroes to join forces with Superman, once The Man of Steel comes out of his self-imposed exile.
4. Shortly thereafter, the reader is introduced to an older Bruce Wayne. How does he patrol Gotham's streets?

Answer: Using an army of robots.

Bruce keeps the mechanical Bat-Knights under close watch. He gives the robots instructions as he sits in the decimated Wayne Manor.
5. Superman returns from his exile, and along with several allies, fights the Minutemen and other deluded patriotic vigilantes. Where does this fight take place?

Answer: The Statue of Liberty

Superman and his allies win an easy, but symbolic, victory. Red Robin, an older Dick Grayson, knocks out the Minutemen's controllers, the Braintrust.
6. Superman visits Bruce Wayne in the Batcave to persuade him to join Superman's team. What feat does Superman accomplish there?

Answer: He walks on water.

Look closely and you will see that Superman never goes beneath the water. This is only one of several images that establish the older Superman as a Messiah-like figure.
7. Bruce Wayne assembles his own team of heroes to counter Superman's "totalitarian" threat. Which of these people are NOT on that team?

Answer: Dick Grayson

Bruce soon joins forces with Lex Luthor to stop Superman, but it turns out that it was all a sham when Bruce's team of heroes attacks Luthor and his allies.
8. The authors introduce us to Lex Luthor and a latter-day super villain team. Which team member snaps a woman's neck?

Answer: Vandal Savage

The victim, Luthor's secretary, did not get Savage's drink order quite right. The secretary lost her life over the amount of sugar Vandal Savage liked in his coffee.
9. Wonder Woman and Superman journey to Atlantis and pay a visit to the former Aquaman. What is the reason for their visit?

Answer: They want to build an underwater prison.

Aquaman refuses their request on the spot and refuses to help them as he did in his youth. He has enough on his hands ruling the seas.
10. Whom does Superman get to build a prison for the rebellious metahumans and the vigilantes?

Answer: Scott Free

Prisoners soon fill the gulag. Despite the one-woman security team of the intimidating Barda Free, the imprisoned super humans quickly begin a riot within the prison walls.
11. The reader learns that Captain Marvel is in the employ of Lex Luthor. Who attempts to free Marvel of Luthor's influence?

Answer: Bruce Wayne

Luthor kept Marvel under his thumb using a mixture of persuasion and mind worms, eventually turning Billy Batson into a "stew of schizophrenic psychoses."
12. Who fights Superman and keeps him at bay as the battle rages around him?

Answer: Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel uses Superman's vulnerability to magic to keep the Man of Steel from gaining the upper hand in the fight.
13. The United Nations resolves to end the riot at the prison by using three nuclear bombs. Batman and Wonder Woman safely detonate two of the bombs, but who sacrifices their life to destroy the third one?

Answer: Captain Marvel

As a memorial to the fallen hero, Captain Marvel's cape flies with the flags of various nations at the U.N. building.
14. Enraged that the U.N. would be willing to kill all the super humans at the prison just to protect themselves, Superman is about to destroy the U.N. building while people are inside. Who talks him out of this deed?

Answer: Norman McKay

The Spectre allows Norman McKay to talk to Superman, and Norman tells Superman that wreaking havoc inside the U.N. building would be something he would have on his conscience forever. Luckily, Superman decides not to kill everyone.
15. One year later Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman meet at a superhero-themed diner. What big secret does Wonder Woman have?

Answer: She's pregnant.

Although she is hoping to surprise Batman with this secret, The Dark Knight guesses her secret correctly, merely by using the power of observation!
