There were no ships for hire anywhere at the dock and Pirate Kitty had just seen Phoenix fly overhead, and they wanted to follow her before she got too far. This scene pays homage to another, outside the fairy tale, when Kitty plays a joke on the rest of the X-Men by pretending to lift the Blackbird from the ocean through telekinesis.

The X-Men's astonishment as the craft began to rise quickly turned to amusement when Colossus appeared, hefting the jet over his head.
