2. Who did Rey Mysterio Jr. face in his 1996 WCW debut at "The Great American Bash"?

Answer: Dean Malenko

Rey began his professional wrestling career in Mexico's AAA, though he had started wrestling when he was a teenager. He was trained by his uncle, Rey Misterio Sr. After a brief stint at ECW, he joined WCW in 1996. His first match for the company was on June 16, 1996, when he competed against Dean Malenko in a match for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. Mysterio gave a good performance but came short of beating Malenko, who retained his title.

"The Great American Bash" 1996 was held at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
3. After winning the WCW Cruiserweight Championship for the first time, for how long did Rey Mysterio Jr. reign as champion?

Answer: 3 months

Rey Mysterio Jr. is often remembered for playing an important role in elevating WCW's Cruiserweight division. He won that belt multiple times while at WCW, and then again in WWE. Even though Mysterio didn't win the WCW Cruiserweight title when he first tried to take it from Dean Malenko at "The Great American Bash", he earned another opportunity in a month. Mysterio finally defeated Malenko on July 8 during "WCW Monday Nitro".

He only held the title for 3 months, since he lost it to Malenko at "Halloween Havoc" in October.
4. Did Rey Mysterio Jr. ever win the WCW World Television Championship?

Answer: No

Though Mysterio had a rather successful career in the WCW cruiserweight division, he was not able to win any other major singles titles at the promotion. He attempted to take the WCW World Television Championship from Prince Iaukea on several occasions in early 1997, but was unsuccessful.

He went on to join WWE and won multiple important championships there, including the World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE Championship, and the Intercontinental Championship.
5. What word completes the odd stipulation of the match in which Rey Mysterio Jr. participated in the 1997 edition of "Road Wild", ___ Death Match?

Answer: Mexican

"Road Wild" 1997 was held in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 9, 1997. The second match of the night saw Mysterio and Konnan compete against each other in a Mexican Death Match. This unusual type of match is also known as a Texas Death Match, which requires two steps to win: first, one must pin or make their opponent submit as they would in a normal match.

Then, the referee must count to ten while the wrestler is unconscious. Konnan defeated Mysterio in this match, after a long feud between the California-born superstar and the NWO.
6. Which of these Mexican "luchadores" NEVER wrestled in a match against Rey Mysterio Jr. at WCW?

Answer: Sin Cara

Sin Cara was a wrestler originally portrayed in WWE by Luis Urive (also known as Mistico in Mexico) and then by Jose Jorge Arriaga. Neither of these performers ever wrestled in WCW. However, Super Calo, Psicosis, and Juventud were all Mexican wrestlers who worked at WCW. Mysterio competed against all of them at least once; for instance, he brawled against Super Calo at "Fall Brawl" 1996. He also fought against Psicosis and Juventud several different times.

Mysterio was at one point in a feud with Latino World Order, a stable led by his friend Eddie Guerrero. Mysterio later joined the group.
7. Rey Mysterio Jr. was infamously unmasked in 1999. Which pair of wrestlers defeated Mysterio in the tag team match that would result in his shocking unmasking?

Answer: Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

Rey Mysterio Jr. has said that this was an infuriating and embarrassing moment in his career. The mask is quite meaningful to Mexican "luchadores", and especially to those whose families are also wrestlers, as was the case with Mysterio. At "SuperBrawl IX" in 1999, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Konnan lost a tag team Hair vs Mask match against The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). As a result, Mysterio was forced to remove his mask inside the ring with everyone in the arena watching. He was visibly uncomfortable and frustrated with this, while his opponents mocked him. Nash even tried to put on the mask as he made fun of Mysterio. After the match, Mysterio called his uncle to share the bad news.

Mysterio would soon get revenge by beating Kevin Nash at a later match. He also beat much larger opponents such as Bam Bam Bigelow and Scott Norton, which earned him the nickname of "Giant Killer".
8. Rey Mysterio Jr. won the WCW World Tag Team Championship as a member of which of the following stables?

Answer: The Filthy Animals

Though this may be hard to believe for fans who only know Rey Mysterio Jr. from WWE, he was once a heel while at WCW. This happened in 1999 when he, joined by Eddie Guerrero, Konnan, and Billy Kidman, formed the Filthy Animals. Between 1999 and 2001, other wrestlers like Juventud Guerrera and Disqo would also join.

Mysterio first won the WCW World Tag Team Championship with Billy Kidman in March 1999. He would get his second title in October 1999 with Konnan, when the pair were known as the Filthy Animals. Then, in 2000, Mysterio would again win the titles with another member of the Filthy Animals: Juventud Guerrera.
9. Against which legend, known as "the Nature Boy", did Rey Mysterio Jr. wrestle on the main event of the March 22, 1999 edition of "Monday Nitro"?

Answer: Ric Flair

Michael Buffer was the ring announcer at "WCW Monday Nitro" on March 22, 1999, which took place in Panama City, Florida. The WCW World Heavyweight Championship, held at that time by Ric Flair, was on the line. Mysterio entered the match as the WCW Cruiserweight champion.

The match was officiated by Charles Robinson, who would usually be in the ring when Flair wrestled. Mysterio offered to shake Flair's hand at the beginning of the match, but "the Nature Boy" refused. Despite his agile movements that would surprise Flair, Rey Mysterio Jr. ended up losing that match.
10. Why was the March 26, 2001 match between the team of Rey Mysterio Jr. and Billy Kidman vs Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo significant?

Answer: It was the last episode of "WCW Nitro"

There were several other reasons why this particular match was significant; for instance, the team of Mysterio and Kidman won the newly-created WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship. Since WCW was sold to WWF almost at the same time, and WWF would choose not to keep these championships, this would also mean that Mysterio and Kidman were the last two wrestlers to hold these titles.

Elix Skipper and Kid Romeo had won a tournament that concluded in "Greed" 2001 to become the inaugural holders of the title. Billed as "The Night of Champions", the final episode of "WCW Nitro" aired on March 26, 2001, and WCW would soon become part of the WWF empire.
