1. The word 'robot' was first used by a writer, in a play known as R.U.R (Rostum's Universal Robots). What was the writer's name?

Answer: Karel Capek

Capek wrote R.U.R. in 1920, and it was first performed in 1921. Though the word 'robot' is now generally applied to mechanical beings, Capek's robots were organic artificial humans.
2. Which science-fiction writer created the 'Three Laws of Robotics'?

Answer: Isaac Asimov

These laws first appeared in Asimov's 1940 short story "Runaround." The laws are: (First Law) A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. (2nd law) A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. (3rd law) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
3. How tall is the "Star Wars" droid R2-D2?

Answer: .96 meters

His friend, 3-CPO, is 1.67 meters tall.
4. What was the name of the robot in the classic sci-fi movie "Forbidden Planet"?

Answer: Robby

"Forbidden Planet" was made in 1956. It is set on Altair IV. The only inhabitants on the planet are Dr. Edward Morbius, his daughter, Altaira, and the robot. Then a spaceship arrives. Its crew are on a mission to discover what happened to a survey crew that diappeared on the planet 20 years before.
