Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the dumber and more rotund of the two cats?

Answer: Snooch

Ebenezer is the other, more slender cat. Snooch often gets himself into trouble, and Ebenezer will usually have to bail him out (though he may choose not to if he's feeling ornery).
2. What is the name of the comic's writer?

Answer: Mel Hynes

J. Grant is the comic's artist. Jim Davis is the creator of the comic strip "Garfield", and I just made Fred Jones up.
3. What phrase did Snooch manage to shave into his back fur?

Answer: SUPR FAT

J. later commented that Mel came up with the idea and e-mailed him the script for it at work, which didn't make much sense to him (how could he shave it into his own back?) until after the comic was published, and Mel told him that it should have been EBEN who was shaved. Oops!
4. Which of the following did Ebenezer and Snooch NOT perform as part of "Eben and Snooch Theatre"?

Answer: War and Peace

They were going to perform "War and Peace", but after about a month of acting out other classic works of literature, they had decided that they had had enough of theatre. Besides, "War and Peace" would have been divided into 15 parts, which would have taken a month and a half!
5. What is Snooch's drink of choice?

Answer: Vodka

He once wrote a rap about beer, but only because vodka didn't rhyme with anything. J. and Mel often get angry letters from readers because they feel that the comic is advocating giving alcohol to cats, which J. and Mel insist it isn't.
6. Which of the following has NOT been the subject for a storyline?

Answer: Lord of the Rings

In the "Wizard of Oz" storyline, Snooch accidentally got blown to Oz by the gale-force winds coming from a heating vent blocked with his own fur. Along the way, he met the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Copycattin' Lion. The group had to retrieve the Wicked Witch of the West's knitting needles and bring them to the Wizard in order for him to give each of them what they asked for. In the end, though, it was one of the Wizard's fits of rage that blew Snooch back to his home.

"Silent Hill" was one of the earliest storylines of the comic. Both J. and Mel love the game, so when Mel proposed the idea, J. couldn't wait to get started. Mel did say that she had trouble trying to figure out how to fit an M-rated video game into a semi-PG-13-rated comic, but they both managed to pull it off.

In "Alice in Wonderland", Snooch finds a giant hole behind the couch that leads to Wonderland, in which he and Ebenezer meet all the characters from the original book, though not in the most conventional manner. In the end, it all turns out to be another of Snooch's dreams...or is it?

There hasn't been a "Lord of the Rings" storyline yet, but I'm still waiting!
7. Which of these is NOT one of Ebenezer's god-related exclamations?

Answer: What in Ra's medicine cabinet?

His exclamations are quite amusing. J. says that he has a lot of fun thinking up new ones. One of my favorites is "BY THE FLAMING HAM OF ODIN, NO!"
8. Which of these songs has NOT been parodied in the comic?

Answer: "Memory", from "Cats"

Musicals seem to be popular fodder for this comic. "Memory" was not parodied, but it was sung verbatim by Snooch after Eben finished his parody of "Major-General's Song". Eben was attempting to perform a musical, but Snooch thought that he was just trying to wake their owner up.
9. What is the name of the second compilation book?

Answer: We Must Be Gods

"I Would Lick It for Hours" is the first compilation book, and "Today I Hunt...Humankind" is the third. "He Who Controls the Gooshyfood...Controls the Universe" was the proposed title for the second book that was eventually dropped.
10. Which cartoonist is fun occasionally poked at?

Answer: Jim Davis

Jim Davis is the creator of the "Garfield" comic strip. J. has said that he will someday "do battle hand-to-hand with Jim Davis and eat his entrails." Charles Schulz created "Peanuts", Scott Adams created "Dilbert", and Darby Conley created "Get Fuzzy".
