Late in the match, Stone Cold Steve Austin entered the ring with a steel chair and hit Bret with it. This enabled Sid to give Bret the "Powerbomb" and become the new champion.

The referee counted to two before Angle kicked out. Austin then gave Kurt the "Stone Cold Stunner" and covered him. The referee counted to three and Austin became the WWF Heavyweight Champion for the sixth time.

In one of the greatest matches in "Smackdown"/WWE history Brock Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle 5-4 to become WWE Heavyweight Champion for the third time.
