Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which wrestler, who later went on to star on reality television and won a lawsuit over a home movie being released, once shared the ring with Mr. T?

Answer: Hulk Hogan

Neither The Rock nor John Cena participated in the 1980s. Andre the Giant never wrestled with or against Mr. T.

During a stunt in the 80s Hulk Hogan, one of the biggest stars in the wrestling world at the time, teamed up in a tag team with Mr. T.

Later on both men would appear in the "Rocky" movie series and share a boxing ring with Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone).

Due to his career on TV in shows like "The A-Team" Mr. T also had several of his own action figures.
2. The stories on how many and the exact size of the beers changes depending on who's telling it, but what 1980s era wrestler is widely accepted to have consumed more than 100 beers in a single sitting?

Answer: Andre the Giant

Among the options only Andre the Giant was a wrestling star in the 1980s.

The stories vary anywhere between 119 and 187 cans of beer, and the size of the beer also vary from standard 10 ounce cans to 16 ounce bottles. Either way the man, who also starred in "The Princess Bride" was well known to be a drunkard.

Good luck finding an action figure of his set to do 12 ounce curls!
3. What future governor of Minnesota, was also a top contender for the World Wrestling Federation heavyweight championship during the 1980s?

Answer: Jesse Ventura

Ventura has several action figures made for his wrestling career and his career in movies such as "Predator".

After his term as governor, Ventura went right back into the entertainment industry hosting television shows and authoring books.

He even had a dispute with the "American Sniper" Chris Kyle that brought them both more attention.
4. Whoo! This is a tough one, unless you've seen more than say an hour's worth of pro wrestling in the '80s or '90s. Which member of the Four Horsemen retired claiming at least sixteen heavyweight championships?

Answer: Ric Flair

Depending on the source, and if a person considers certain promotions to be "professional" Flair can claim between 16 and 25 world championships. The World Wrestling Entertainment declared him a 16-time champion when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Flair's career officially spanned from Dec. 1972 until Dec. 2012, though he continued to make non-wrestling appearances after his retirement.
5. Which Canadian-born wrestler, known as the Hitman, made his name in the '80s in the World Wrestling Federation, but retired in the '90s as a member of rival World Championship Wrestling?

Answer: Bret Hart

Bret Hart broke into the WWF with his brother-in-law Jim Neidhart as a tag team partnership under the leadership of Jimmy Hart (not related). Because of the manager the team was known as the Hart Foundation. It continued on for many years with and without Brett as a member.

Hart was a 5-time WWF champion, and was the reigning champion when he signed with the rival WCW. He wasn't slated to lose the title at his final pay per view, instead he was going to somehow forfeit it before his contract ended. Top brass at the WWF decided not to trust that and rigged a match to be called despite Hart not knowing he was going to lose.

Because it happened in Montreal it became known as the Montreal Screwjob.
6. The father of one of the biggest World Wrestling Entertainment stars of the 1990s and 2000s, which wrestling star was the National Wrestling Alliance Georgia Champion in his heyday?

Answer: Rocky Johnson

Rocky Johnson is the father of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The elder Johnson wrestled mostly in the territory days before professional wrestling was quite as big a deal as it became in the 1990s and beyond.

THe elder Johnson and partner Tony Atlas were the first all black team to win the World Wrestling Federation's tag team titles
7. Wrestling in the 1960s and '70s as Grizzly Smith, which 1980s star who was also named for an animal was his real-life son?

Answer: Jake "The Snake" Roberts

Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Rockin' Robin were both Smith's biological children and future professional wrestlers.

Grizzy's real name was Aurelian Smith, and Jake's real name was Aurelian Smith Jr. Jake the Snake was one of the more popular wrestlers of the decade and was featured in a Netflix documentary that chronicled his rise, fall and redemption.
8. Which wrestling star of the 1980s was the first to hold the United States Wrestling Association's Unified World Heavyweight Championship in 1988 and the second to last to hold in in 1997 when the promotion folded?

Answer: Jerry Lawler

Nicknamed "The King", Lawler held that specific championship 28 times over his career. Twice he lost it to other wrestler's also named "King" when he lost to King Reginald and King Cobra.

He last won the title in April 1997, and lost it to Dutch Mantell in August of that year. Mantell held it until November when the organization folded. The promotion was based mostly in Memphis, Tennessee, rarely leaving that region for shows.
9. Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, billed as the Iron Sheik, was originally from what country?

Answer: Iran

Vaziri was an Ametuer Athletic Association gold medalist at the World Championships before moving to America and becoming a professional wrestler.

He was popular in the World Wrestling Federation during the height of the Cold War, often playing the heel role to great effect.

He retired from major professional wrestling in the early 1990s, but continued to make sporadic appearances into the 2010s.
10. Arguably one of the greatest professional wrestling villains of all time, which wrestler also appeared in dozens of other television shows and movies during his career such as "They Live", "Sci-Fighters" and "Walker, Texas Ranger"?

Answer: Roddy Piper

My favorite Roddy Piper line of all time came from the movie "They Live". He played John Nada and his this line of dialogue. "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

Piper definitely had action figures in his day from many movie roles and from his wrestling days.

He had a heart attack and died in 2015.
