Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is it called when a superstar takes a dive off the top rope?

Answer: high spot

"High spot" can also refer to a series of unorthodox and dangerous maneuvers. High spots are typically commonplace for high flyers.
2. What is a "house show"?

Answer: A professional wrestling event that is non-televised

House shows usually take place in smaller cities and give new comers the opportunity to compete with the big dogs. Tickets are often cheaper and there are more chances for autograph signings at these events.
3. What does "IWC" stand for?

Answer: Internet Wrestling Community

The Internet Wrestling Community includes all the fans that participate in forums about pro wrestling or simply like to research it. The term was coined in 2005.
4. What is the term used to describe a professional wrestler who actually has a mat-wrestling background and can perform a series of grappling maneuvers?

Answer: Hooker

The term also loosely referred to mid 20th century wrestlers who "took on all comers" at carnivals. Wrestlers such as Kurt Angle, Shelton Benjamin, and Cody Rhodes would all be examples of "hookers" in pro wrestling.
5. When a wrestler is told they are going to "job" at an event, what are they going to be doing?

Answer: Losing

A "job" is losing a match. One of the most famous "jobbers" was the Brooklyn Brawler. In the 1980s fans got used to seeing Brooklyn Brawler lose at every event, as he very rarely won. This is not to be confused with "putting someone over" as this is usually to make way for a top star.
6. "Heat" is a term used to describe the crowd's negative reaction towards a pro wrestler.

Answer: False

Whenever you hear that a wrestler is drawing "heat" this means they're saying or doing something to make the crowd boo or cheer, not one or the other. Typically heel wrestler draw the most negative heat and face wrestler get more "cheap heat".
7. Which of the following organizations was considered an "independent promotion"?

Answer: New Japan Pro Wrestling

An independent promotion is a wrestling organization that is too small to compete with the bigger promotions. World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) both competed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) from 1980-2000, until Vince McMahon bought both ECW and WCW. New Japan Pro Wrestling was an independent wrestling federation in Japan back in the 1980s.
8. When somebody "jumps ship" in professional wrestling, what is he or she doing?

Answer: Switching companies

In the 1990s this phrase was commonly used because so many wrestlers would leave World Championship Wrestling for the World Wrestling Federation and vice versa. One of the biggest culprits of "jumping ship" was Hulk Hogan, who frequently changed companies throughout his career.
9. What do we call the "bad guys" of professional wrestling?

Answer: Heels

The heel's mission is to draw heat and make the fans hate them. Their rivals are usually faces, also known as the good guys.
10. A "hot tag" is usually performed by a heel team of wrestlers.

Answer: False

There will usually be a period of time in a Tag Team Match in which the good guys (faces) will be on the losing end of things. When this happens, the crowd is ready for the current in-ring face to tag in his partner. When he makes that tag and his partner cleans house, this is a "hot tag". The hot tag is usually performed by the faces because the crowd typically has a good reaction.
