Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The inaugural "Judgment Day" pay per view was held as an "In Your House" event in 1998. The main event was for the WWF Championship. Who were the two participants in the match?

Answer: Kane and The Undertaker

The championship had been declared vacant because in a Triple Threat match at the previous pay per view, Kane and The Undertaker had simultaneously pinned the champion Austin. Vince McMahon declared the title to be contested for at Judgment Day between Kane and Undertaker with Austin acting as the special guest referee.

Shawn Michaels had retired from active competition after suffering a serious back injury in January 1998, although he did come back to contest just one more match against Austin at WrestleMania. Shawn returned to full time competition only in 2002.
2. At the main event of the inaugural "Judgment Day" pay per view, the Kane and Undertaker main event went to a no contest when Steve Austin got physically involved and tried to get himself the WWF Championship. In order to crown a new champion, what happened next?

Answer: A tournament was held the following month at the Survivor Series pay per view

The tournament for the vacant championship at Survivor Series was dubbed "Deadly Game". Stone Cold, Undertaker and Kane all took part in the Deadly Game but none of them made it to the final. Undertaker and Kane both received a bye in their first round matches and met in the quarterfinals. Undertaker pinned Kane but then lost by disqualification to The Rock, who advanced to the finals. Austin earned a disqualification win in his first round match and received a bye in his quarterfinal scheduled fixture.

He was defeated by Mankind in the following round, who also made it to the final. The Rock defeated Mankind by submission to become the new WWF Champion.
3. In which year at "Judgment Day" was the Intercontinental Championship NOT contested for?

Answer: 2005

While the WWE championship, United States title, Cruiserweight title and WWE Tag Team Championships were all contested for, an Intercontinental championship match did not have a place on the card.
At the 2003 Judgment Day, Christian won a battle royal for the vacant Intercontinental Championship while at the 2002 event, Eddie Guerrero retained the title against Rob Van Dam in the opening match and the 1998 event saw Ken Shamrock defeat Mankind by a unique method: Mankind used his own finishing move, the Mandible Claw, to knock himself out.
4. What was the main event for the 2001 edition of "Judgment Day"?

Answer: Stone Cold Steve Austin v. The Undertaker in a No Holds Barred match for the WWF Championship

While Kane v. Triple H for the Intercontinental Championship did take place at Judgment Day 2001, it was a featured match on the undercard, not the main event. Kane defeated the champion Triple H to earn the Intercontinental title.
Stone Cold and The Undertaker went at it for twenty minutes in tremendous back and forth action. Triple H raced to the ring just when things appeared dire for Austin. Vince McMahon, who was at the commentary desk, also got involved but was struck with a chair. Triple H eventually nailed Undertaker with a sledgehammer and Austin pinned him.
5. At "Judgment Day 2002", an undercard match ended sixteen feet above the ring.

Answer: True

Chris Jericho and Triple H battled in a Hell in a Cell match, where the contestants are enclosed in a sixteen feet high, two ton, roofed steel cage. A referee was injured during the match and to get him some medical help, the padlock on the cell door was opened with bolt cutters.

The match was continued outside and then on top of the cell. Triple H hit Jericho with his patented "Pedigree" finishing move on the roof and a referee climbed up to make the count.
6. During the 2004 "Judgment Day" event, a notable spot of blading took place. Who accidentally cut an artery in his head, causing excessive, legitimate bleeding?

Answer: Eddie Guerrero

The WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero was defending the title against JBL in the main event. JBL struck the champion over the head with a chair and Guerrero was meant to cut his forehead to give an impression of, when mixed with sweat, blood. However, Guerrero cut too deep into his head, accidentally slicing an artery, causing rivers of blood to flow down his face and onto his chest. Guerrero bled for the rest of the match, which ended via disqualification when Guerrero was caught hitting JBL with the championship belt. World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit did not compete on the Pay Per View while The Undertaker faced Booker T prior to the main event.
7. At "Judgment Day 2003" in Charlotte, North Carolina, who were the participants in the World Heavyweight Championship match? Note that "(c)" indicates the champion heading into the match.

Answer: Kevin Nash v. Triple H (c)

Kevin Nash defeated Triple H by disqualification but according to WWE regulations, a title can change hands ONLY by pinfall or submission.
Big Show competed for the WWE Championship in the main event of the evening, in a Stretcher Match, against Brock Lesnar. Chris Benoit competed in his team's losing effort in a six man tag team match earlier that evening. Chris Jericho, meanwhile, competed in a battle royal to determine the new Intercontinental Champion, which was won by Christian.
8. At the 2008 edition of "Judgment Day", The Undertaker defeated Edge in a match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. How did he win?

Answer: By countout

The Undertaker had defeated Edge at WrestleMania XXIV in late March to capture the title and had successfully defended it against him at Backlash, the April Pay Per View. Vickie Guerrero stripped Undertaker of the championship, claiming that he had used an illegal submission maneuver, the Hells Gate, to both capture and retain the gold. Because of WWE regulations, the title was not awarded to Undertaker as he won by countout and a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match was held on June the first at the One Night Stand Pay Per View, where Edge was victorious.
9. Booker T was officially crowned 'King of the Ring' for 2006 when he won the King of the Ring tournament final at "Judgment Day 2006". Who did he defeat to earn this honour?

Answer: Bobby Lashley

After distractions provided by his valet, Sharmell, Booker T's associate, Finlay, struck Lashley with a shillelagh. Booker T pinned him following this and officially was crowned and rechristened, "King Booker".
Finlay had lost to Chris Benoit earlier that evening by submission while William Regal did not compete on the card. Finlay and Regal acted as Booker T's associates in his feud against Bobby Lashley, which was continued after Judgment Day.
10. At "Judgment Day 2007", what was the result of the contest between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels?

Answer: Randy Orton won by knockout

Shawn Michaels had been attacked by Randy Orton in an interview segment prior to the match. Michaels had entered the match with a legitimate knee injury and showed signs of injury during the match. After thwarting Orton's attempt at a superplex, Michaels took off from the top rope, successfully connecting with a flying elbow.

He then tried to hit his signature superkick, "Sweet Chin Music", but collapsed while trying. The referee awarded Orton the match and Orton once again, attacked Michaels which supposedly caused a career ending concussion.

The concussion was scripted, intended to provide time for Michaels to have knee surgery.
