Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which elephant insisted on rescuing someone he couldn't see, claiming "I'll just have to save him. Because after all // A person's a person, no matter how small"?

Answer: Horton

In Dr. Seuss' story "Horton Hears a Who!", the elephant Horton heard a voice from a speck of dust. Incredibly the dust was Whoville, the home town of a race of little creatures named Whos. While Horton's fellows tried to get rid of that dust, he promised to protect the life of the Whos.
Dr. Seuss (real name Theodore Geisel) wrote several books for kids. "Horton Hatches an Egg" introduced the elephant, while the best known book by Dr. Seuss was "The Cat in the Hat".
The other choices were also elephants from literature.
Hathi was an elephant in "The Jungle Book", leading his herd. Dumbo was an elephant that learned to fly. Jean de Brunhoff wrote about Babar, the elephant who stayed a while in a big city before returning to the jungle.
2. In Enid Blyton's series "The Famous Five", who was the dog?

Answer: Timmy

The main characters were Julian, his younger brother Dick, their youngest sister Ann, their cousin Georgina (who preferred to be called George) and George's dog Timmy.
In the first book, "Five on a Treasure Island", these five friends spent the holidays at George's place, near an island on which a ship was wrecked. The ship was said to carry a lot of gold, and the five found a map indicating the probable hiding place of the gold. But then an antique dealer showed up, probably looking for the gold too...
Enid Blyton wrote 21 books about the Famous Five. She also wrote several other books for children.
3. Who was the leader of the Talking Mice in "Prince Caspian"?

Answer: Reepicheep

The English author C.S. Lewis published seven books in the "Chronicles of Narnia" series. "Prince Caspian" was published as the second instalment. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie had visited the magical world of Narnia in the previous book, and now once again they were transported to Narnia. There they got involved in the civil war between the evil King Miraz and the rightful heir to the throne, Prince Caspian. Both sides were helped by magical creatures; for instance Reepicheep, the leader of the Talking Mice, came to help our friends.
Reepicheep also appeared in the next book "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" and in the last book "The Final Battle".
Stuart Little and Geronimo Stilton were talking mice from books that bear their name. The Italian Elisabetta Dami wrote about the Stiltons, and the American E.B. White introduced us to Stuart Little.
Roquefort was the mouse in the Disney movie "The Aristocats". I remember that back in 1970 the story of the movie was also published as a book for six to eight year old children. Richard Sherman, the songwriter for the movie, published this book.

Bruin the bear was sent to summon Reynard to appear in court, but Reynard tricked him and went home again.
