Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the book 'The Bad Beginning' by Lemony Snicket, was Count Omar the bad guy?

Answer: no

Count Olaf was the bad guy. In 'The Vile Village', his name was mistaken for Count Omar by the 'Daily Punctilio'.
2. In 'The BFG' by Roald Dahl, which of these was not one of the bad giants?

Answer: Meatmuncher

The giants are as follows: Fleshlumpeater, Bonecruncher, Manhugger, Childchewer, Meatdripper, Gizzardgulper, Maidmasher, Bloodbottler, Butcher Boy, BFG.
3. Which of these is not a 'Famous Five' book by Enid Blyton?

Answer: Five Have a Great Time

There was an Enid Blyton book 'Five Have a Wonderful Time', which was first published in 1952. 'Five on a Treasure Island' is the first book in the series. 'Five Get Into Trouble' is a book where Dick gets mistaken for another kid, and gets kidnapped. 'Five Have Plenty of Fun' is the fourteenth book in the series, first published in 1955.
4. Which of these people is a villain from 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke?

Answer: Capricorn

'Inkheart' has been made into a movie.

Attila is from a Steve Cole 'Astrosaurs' book, Mrs. Norris is the cat in J.K. Rowling's series 'Harry Potter' and Scipio is from 'The Thief Lord', also by Cornelia Funke.
5. Which "Harry Potter" book, by JK Rowling, does Voldemort not appear in (regardless of form)?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I won't spoil it for any of you that haven't read/ finished the books, but in the "Chamber of Secrets", Harry meets Voldemort in a very strange form.
6. Which of these bad guys and gals are matched up to the correct books?

Answer: Esme Squalor- "Ersatz Elavator"

Esme Squalor appears in a lot more ASOUE books, but Book Six is where she joins.

Hopefully anyone who has read 'James and the Giant Peach' will recognise Aunt Spiker (and Aunt Sponge). 'James and the Giant Peach' is by Roald Dahl, and one of his autobiographies is 'Going Solo'.

Big fans of Harry Potter might recognise Argus Filch as the caretaker, and readers of Enid Blyton will recognise 'Famous Five' and 'Secret Seven' as two of her most popular series.

Mr Big is made up, although there will probably be some book with a character called Mr Big in it anyway.
7. Which of these bad guys do not appear in an "Alex Rider" book?

Answer: Rory McDougal

Believe it or not, Rory McDougal is in 'I Know What You Did Last Wednesday' (a Diamond Brothers story). Mrs. Stellenbosch is in 'Point Blank', Herod Sayles in 'Stormbreaker', and Yassan Gregorovitch in both 'Stormbreaker' and 'Eagle Strike'. Both the "Alex Rider" and "Diamond Brothers" series are written by Anthony Horowitz.
8. I am an old lady. I take medicine every day. I have a grandson I used to boss around till he got revenge on me: he made me grow enormously and then shrink tremendously. Who am I?

Answer: George's grandma (name unknown)

She is in 'George's Marvelous Medicine' by Roald Dahl. The medicine was what George tampered with, making her grow and then shrink.
9. Which of these names are spelt incorrectley (I meant to speel that wrong)?

Answer: Esme Gigi Geneive Squalor

The correct spelling is Esme Gigi Genevieve Squalor, from the 'Series of Unfortunate Events' books. I have mentioned her in previous questions.

Lucius Malfoy, from JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter', is Draco's father, sent to Azkaban when Harry proves he is indeed a death eater. In the sixth book in the series, Voldemort takes revenge on the Malfoys, but not on Lucius himself!

'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl, has three farmers: Boggis, Bunce and Bean.

Julia is in Alex Rider's 'Scorpia', both the book and the organisation. Although I chose a member of Scorpia as a villain, I could have easily chosen a member of MI6!
10. Which of these people is not a villain?

Answer: Prosper

Prosper is from 'The Thief Lord' by Cornelia Funke, and he is not a villain, although he steals stuff.

Hugo the Hunchback is a member of the Caligari Carnival, until the end of the ninth book in 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', when he joins Olaf's troupe.

Lucius Malfoy is father of Draco; Harry Potter's enemy.

The Grand High Witch is in 'The Witches' by Roald Dahl.
